Into - More veggies. As I got older I realized I just am not a raw veggie person. I will eat them if they are steamed though. BBQ pulled pork. Never had when I was young. Love it. I eat it from time to time.
Good idea for a thread! It got me thinking about how far I've come, even though I know I have a long way to go. I still love sweets and chocolate, especially those darn creme eggs, but I have cut back on how much and how often I eat that stuff. In my early 20's I didn't cook very often so I had a lot of Chinese food, frozen pizza, and even cereal for dinner. And I hated all vegetables as a kid!
Now I've gotten to a point where I love salad, and I'll buy green beans, asparagus, and spinach to have at home. I still eat out or have a frozen meal occasionally, but 95% of my meals are home-cooked. I even made spinach and kale stuffed shells last weekend - I still don't really like kale, but at least I'm trying different veggies! I rarely drink soda anymore either. I bought a 12-pack of the cranberry Sierra Mist last fall, and I still have half of it left! A couple months ago I had a cream filled donut as a treat - it was tasty, but I actually felt sick afterwards.
I don't think I will ever give up sweets entirely, but moderation is key. I'm happy as long as I keep working toward a healthier diet.

A lot of little kids like box mac and cheese better than homemade. I still like spam every now and then but I do buy turkey, low sodium or lite spam and melt an ounce of extra sharp cheddar cheese on it. I have also grown into yogurt and real cheese. As a child, I loved sliced cheese food; I can't believe I ever ate it. I now crave the real stuff and I like it full-bodied; I cut my one ounce and am satisfied. I am also slowly giving up hotdogs. I bought a pack of SmartDogs from Kroger---my little boy loves hotdogs, but I know how unhealthy they are. They were very expensive---almost $4 a pack. My hubby grabbed the whole pack and took them to add to his lunch stash at work. I didn't even get to try them. I'll buy another pack over the weekend and lay down the law.

I am hoping I grow into more vegetables! Not actually turn into one but broaden my variety would be nice.
Grew out of Hamburger Helper My dad was a single dad and he made it a lot because it was easy when he was working. I tried a box a couple of years ago and MY GOD was it salty. Also those little "hugs" drinks. You know the weird orange, green purple and red stuff in the little plastic containers with the peel off foil on top. Ewww chemicals. Also boxed powdered mac and cheese I gave up like many of you. My hubby loves the stuff (Canadians in general eat the most in the world) I'd like to say there's more I grew out of but it's more like there are things that I gave up.
I do STILL have the occasional Coke. It's one thing I can't really quit all together. I have one of the 100 calorie ones when I have a REALLY bad migraine. Sometimes only caffine will help and for 100 calories maybe once every couple of weeks isn't bad when I used to drink 32 ounce cherry cokes for free (I worked at Subway and we got free pop)
Things I grew into... my grandma also helped raise us for most of my childhood and teen years. She has always been a "you eat what's set before you" kind of person. I never liked turnip greens, kale or brussels sprouts. Now I love them. I still don't eat a lot of fish/seafood but my favorite is trout. The only things I have tried that I HATE are internal organs of animals(liver, kidneys etc) canned peas, sweet potatoes, prunes, dates, grapefruit and raw fish. Pretty much everything else I like, or haven't tried, or have tried but would give it another shot.
Grew out of hotdogs, Mt.Dew, cotton candy, milk as a beverage, steak, white bread with jelly, pancakes with vienna sausages for dinner, Campbell's soup (esp. bean with bacon), bacon, Velveeta cheese food, CheezWhiz, iceberg lettuce, ham spread
Grew into brussel sprouts, cauliflower, eggs, peanut butter, honey, mushrooms, dark chocolate, coffee, beer, lobster

I grew into grapes a few years ago and more recently greek yogurt and even celery! I'm becoming a reformed picky eater!
@ Rhymeswithbaby -- A few have mentioned powdered Mac and Cheese. I remember when my girls were young and one of their friends came over and I made real Mac and Cheese from my own recipe. Her friend cried and wouldn't eat it. After investigating, I found out that mine wasn't the right color like her mom's -- bright yellow! I rectified the situation by pullling out an old box of Kraft and making it for her, much to her delight.
And, I forgot to mention earlier that a few days ago I posted that I never made it into adulthood when it came to store-bought birthday cakes. Love them too, but I pass them by nowadays because of the calories.
Many of you have mentioned yogurt. When I was young, they only made plain yogurt, and it was considered "hippie" food back then. Most people wouldn't touch it with a 10-foot pole. It sure has taken off! Now I couldn't imagine a world without it!
So what is a food in your past that you never, ever could stomach anymore? Mine is Spam.

My mom served "health food" when I was a kid, which, although I may sometimes have resented it then, I am happy about now. I never liked and still can't eat that spongy white bread. White bread was a treat we had on the weekend, but it came from a bakery in whole loaves that we cut thick slices from ourselves. I never ate boxed macaroni and cheese until I was in middle school and went home for lunch with a girl in my class one day. That orange powder fascinated me! (We made our own mac and cheese with elbow noodles and I liked that much better.)
I recall not liking mushrooms, ginger, or mustard as a kid, but I love them now. With ginger and mustard it was a matter of getting used to the strong taste. I guess some mustards are still too strong for me. Not sure why I didn't like mushrooms, but by the time I was a teenager I was eating them. Since my early twenties I've been a pretty adventurous eater, so if I don't like something, I really don't like it (raisins, peas, olives, organ meats).
One thing that has changed since joining SparkPeople is that grocery store baked goods no longer taste delicious. I bought myself some two-bite brownies instead of cake for my birthday, and they were okay, but not as tasty as I thought they'd be. I guess I've grown out of that stuff now.
Grew out of soft drink/soda/pop/coke over 10 years ago now. I may have one 2 times a year if I'm having a burger, but I tend to like milk if I have pizza. I drink tons of water, a cup or two black decaf coffee and decaf teas.
Grew out of artificial sweeteners, sugar and donuts.
I've always liked brussels sprouts and turnips, but I LOVE them now.

Grown into: asparagus and brocolli (sp?)---my mom just didn't serve it, and I love it Also, I never had cheesecake until I went to college, and it's, unfortunately, one of my favs---everything in moderation
Grown out of: store bought pastries and cookies, can't stand twinkies and fake tasting things like that, box mac and cheese, and white bread
Like many of you, I grew up without a lot of foods, particularly the not-so-popular vegetables like eggplant, brussel sprouts, mushrooms and asparagus because they weren't part of my mom's hertitage, so I didn't like them until I started cooking for myself.
Just recently, my mom (at 83 years old) tried an avocado. She loved it. Still can't figure out why she was so reluctant to try new things. There were foods that she always said that she didn't like. I'm finding out now that many of those foods never even passed her lips.
I try to keep an open mind with regards to foods I haven't tasted, but I've certainly made up my mind about which ones from the past I won't eat again!

Greek yogurt I use to hate it now I love it. I have tried different things like eggplant , almond milk, almond butter, ugly fruit, I really love them. I too don't like greasy foods, they almost make me sick. I can live without fast foods. I always get a salad. I gave up diet sodas, now if I TAKE A SIP THEY ARE SO SUGARY.

Greasy stuff. Used to love it, now it's icky. Like fish and chips bought at the beach concession stand. This used to be the food of the gods for me, now it's gross - dripping oil! The fish still tastes pretty good once you get the batter off it, but I don't buy it at all anymore since I don't know how many calories the fish has managed to soak up!
I don't think I've grown out of liking anything, there are still many things that I would enjoy but stay away from for the most part because they are unhealthy. As I have gotten older though I have started liking more vegetables and fruit, and become more accustomed to Mexican food and other things that we just didn't have growing up.

I haven't really grown out of anything. I guess cream eggs and peeps, although I do have them once or twice every spring. I don't like things so sugary anymore either. I also can't do beef, but I never really liked it. It just makes me sick to eat it now.
I like squash and sweet potatoes these days. I hated them when I was younger, but now I love squash and sweet potatoes are okay. Celery and carrots are also starting to be not so bad for me, and so is zucchini depending on how it's prepared.

omg I just realized I totally grew out of beans and wienies (we always had them over rice) I remember making them for my own kids and adding brown sugar and cinnamon and molasses to them. The thought of doing that now... blech!

Growing into things that were not availble while I was growing up--yogurt, more seafood, asian cooking, near-eastern cooking. Never readily had snacky things other than fruit and homemade cookies. I grew up with homemade bread (I was the baker every Saturday from jr high through sr high) so the new breads are not much different but adding all the seeds and extras are. I can make a meal out of a fresh loaf of great bread in the summer. Me, the back porch, pot of tea and seed bread. Ummmm
I love a good chewy Italian bread or French bread. That's what I mean by "mostly" outgrown in that case. I don't do the pre-sliced white sandwich bread. Someone, maybe a few people, mentioned some ick that I used to like-iceberg lettuce, olive loaf, and some other lunch meats. OH. Kraft dinner, hamburger helper, ramen noodles, cheesy poofs, Cheetos, and some other stuff.

I don't think I grew out of anything. My tastes have only added more and more things I will eat or at least try. I grew into vegetables, steaks mid rare, sweet potatos, hummus, etc... The list could go on a long while. I was a super picky eater as a child.
I like a good white bread too, but only for tuna sandwiches. A tuna sandwich is not the same with any other kind of bread. I usually skip the bread and roll my tuna in lettuce leafs though, but occasionally what the white bread.
I've grown out of white bread. It tastes nasty to me now. Also, I don't know about growing out of it, but when I was young, my mama used to make salmon patties and rutabaga at least twice a week. It took me about 20 years to start liking them again. LOL!
Agreeably, fried foods were a hard one for me to get past. I don't crave them, but I still make them occasionally. On the subject of cheese, I've always loved it, but now, like fine wines, I gravitate more towards the artisan cheeses. No more American cheese for me now, but still have to have Velveeta occasionally (even though it is highly processed). ME CHEESE ADDICT TOO!
And, yep, I've grown away from soda too. Much too much sugar. The diet ones don't satisfy. I do have to force myself to drink lots of water though.
Unfortunately, I've never grown out of squishy white bread, but it's a treat I buy occasionally to have with peanut butter.
Oh, and cilantro -- when I first tasted it, I thought it tasted like soap. It's definitely a food that you have to grow into. I love it today.
Some of the things I remember from childhood.. vienna sausages, potted meat, olive loaf, ice burg lettuce... pretty much all a thing of the past. One of my favorites was Kraft macaroni and cheese with tomatoes and hot dogs, but that was years ago.....I've grown out of a lot of fried things and white bread. Grown into whole grains, lots of fresh veggies, salmon, darker greens....
I_Heart...You reminded me. I also can't "do" soda anymore. It all makes my head hurt pretty bad.
Also, I really don't drink milk anymore, except for almond milk from time to time. Used to be I couldn't get enough dairy, but usually the only dairy I have is the evaporated milk for my coffee and cheese. (I think I'm a cheese addict. I CAN drink my coffee black, and I really tried, but then the coffee got switched to Folgers, and after your tastebuds have been spoiled by fresh ground dark roast-it's just not the same.)
There used to be a pop, I don't know if there still is, called "Tahiti Treat" - it was the sweetest substance known to humankind, and I LOVED it as a kid. I tried it as an adult once, and almost gagged.
But I never did grow out of "kids candy" - the pop rocks and love hearts and bottle caps and gobstoppers? All good stuff still, even if I rarely eat it I can't say I've "grown out."
What I have literally moved on from though is foods that are extremely high in salt - the kraft dinners, the doritos and chips. I do not like these things. (It was so easy to cut them out for Sparking purposes heh heh heh).
And what I have grown *into* is "difficult vegetables" - I LOATHED brussels sprouts, eggplant, kale.... *shudder* and now they are mainstays, that I not only eat because they are "good for me" but because I came 'round to liking them!
Cilantro is a flavour I grew into as well - first time i tried it, I thought it was horrid. These days I will chop up a half cup and throw it into a salad.
I do not like just any candy, I have an expensive taste for good dark chocolate. Only store bought candy I like is Russell Stovers, did I say like, I meant love! Easter time is torture, I love those cream filled Russell Stover eggs... I liked bologna too and yuck now. I also like the finer things such as seafood and veggies. Seafood was never an option while we grew up. I don't like chips either, but have to say the Doritos Jacked are good, they are thick and yummy I love the enchilada supreme flavor. In fact, I had a craving for some on Sunday and bought some. I wish I did not, I ate too many, but I fed the craving and now am over it and have not touched them since, and I did not raid the house for something else to substitute that craving and then end up consuming even more calories then the chips, so all is good. I do not care for soda or any sweet drink. I drink water, watered down gatorade, coffee and tea are my daily drinks ,I do sip a few sips of soda when I have pizza or a burger. One thing I liked as a kid verses today is yogurt. I wish I liked it more, I probably should eat more of it. I try but it is not my favorite, but boy my daughter and husband love the stuff and then poof it is gone when I want some. I am having a small container of yogurt now, I had to buy single servings and put my name on it, it will take me a while to eat it. I make myself eat is as it is good for the digestive system. I do not hate it, it is just one of those foods that only really taste good to me once in a great while.
I've also grown out of Doritos, various uber processed cream filled snacky cakes and pies, pork (especially ham and bacon, but all of it), red meat, various other junk foods. I've outgrown sugar cereals and MOST white bread.
I still crave/eat sea salt and vinegar chips. I cannot have-whatsoever-salty, briney pickles or olives (and I LOVE Gorgonzola stuffed Greek and/or Sicilian olives). I really should not have Chinese food, but I still do on occasion.
Progress, not perfection-right?
I have totally grown into organic fresh vegetables, especially dark leafy, slightly bitter lettuces, chia seeds, flaxseed meal, fish, more vegetables, green apples, vegetables, beans, unsalted raw nuts, beans, and vegetables.
Mmmm. Vegetables. I think I will have some of last night's leftover vegan black bean soup for my lunch.
As a kid, I loved things like boxed macaroni and cheese (you know the brand), processed lunch meats (bologna) and various artificially flavored chips (specifically Doritos and Cheese Puffs). Now, you won't find any of those things in my house. And even the others in the house don't like any of these things because I've shielded them from those processed foods for so many years. I used to love candy like Snickers and Lemon Drops (and still do have a few favorites but I usually can stay away from them).
As I've gotten older, I've grown into eating lots of seafood and other fish. I never thought that I would ever crave salmon or clams (and other), but I do now.
