And thanks for your input Wildestrose emoticon

Today is my third day of cutting out 'treats' and I feel FANTASTIC. I think cutting them out is what's going to work for me, but I will also remember the OCCASIONAL treat is ok!!! Thanks guys

Hey AGKOLK,

I work out why I am overeating, why one little taste isn't enough. What do I really want that I'm trying to get from food? Love, attention, affection, company, fun, sleep, entertainment, confidence, conversation? It's usually one of those for me. And once I identify what it is that I really want the food is less alluring.

It also helps for me to own my actions. It is my choice to eat the 25th chocolate cookie, plus the 24 that came before it. I made that choice, I weighed it up in my mind and at the time it seemed like the best decision. Sometimes it is the best decision if I would fall apart without that cookie.

I don't believe in banning foods because I know I would just go and buy a kilo of said banned food and eat it in one go! It doesn't fit with my recovery program either, but if it works for you that is so great. We are all different.

One more thing I wanted to say is that your exercise is never for nothing. Even if you eat ten times the amount of calories you burned during exercise your body is still healthier for doing the exercise and I think it's really great that you aren't giving up on everything that is good for you because one thing is a struggle. It's so easy to throw the towel in completely when the eating is off, but the exercise still has so much value.

I agree. You will never see an Oreo or a bag of Dove chocolate in my house! I can't be trusted. But I will say when I'm at an eating event or someone brings an amazing treat to work, I take it for later and make sure I eat it very slowly and mindfully so I really get longer satisfaction out of it. I don't want to deprive myself if there's something that I really truly want, but I also want to make sure that I enjoy it thoroughly because there won't be another half bag following it!

Thank you Smith and Nancy :D That is exactly what I'm going to do!!! I'm sick of going around in circles when it comes to over-eating 'treats'! I'm banning them as of NOW.

Thank you both for your advice :)

Hi AGKOLK,

I actually agree with NSTARSMITH. For me I had to give up some of the foods that I found triggered overeating. I did not and still don't (7 years later) bring them in the house. The reason, I know I have a very difficult time disciplining myself with eating say 3 Hershey Kisses a day. If I go to the store and buy three little Kisses and that's all, I'm fine. But once I get a big bag home, it's only a matter of time before I am scarfing down the whole thing.

That being said, this journey is really not just losing weight. It's about discovering what triggers us to do the things we do. This is where journaling can be a big eye-opener. Once you discover, what I like to call, "the why I do, what I do, when I do it" scenario, then we can develop our own plan around it and do what is right for you.

You can do this!

Coach Nancy

Ya know, I read a lot about "all things in moderation" but sometimes I really believe we just need to cut out the foods that trigger us! Maybe it would help you to rule out those treats because right now they are very powerful triggers. If they derail your momentum, it could be worth your while to cut them out entirely. Might need to do some attitude work to get on top of that challenge but it would be worth it to get rolling on the weight loss. Hope that is helpful! Good luck!

Since making the new year resolution to actually lose the 15 kilos I've put on in a year, I've done good with my exercise but have been struggling with controlling what I eat. I manage to eat mostly healthy food for a few days, but then one little treat turns into another little treat and then before I know it I've eaten soooo much 'little' treats that all my exercise is pretty much for nothing. I feel out of control because I REALLY want to cut back on the 'treats', but by the end of each week, I've managed to eat ALOT more than I had originally planned. I write down what I eat each day etc but that hasn't helped me!

HELP!!! emoticon emoticon emoticon
