I pre-ordered the AMIIGO. It has everything! I'm really looking forward to tracking my swimming accurately without changing to another device. It looks awesome. I'm sure because it's new it will need some adjustments, but I'm okay with that. The only drawback is that it's pricey, but if you can and don't mind spending $200 then it's very worth it. It tracks, all activity, exercise including swimming! And there is no waiting period for it to start tracking.
One main drawback: It does not link with SparkPeople. It's too new. I intend to keep my SparkTracker and use the Amiigo in addition to it. I can use the information it gives me manually on SparkPeople.

check out fitbit.com these will sync with SP. Fitbit is coming out with some new ones in 2015. One is called the Charge HR which will monitor your pulse to give you a more accurate calorie burn. The SURGE has even more that it can do.

Looking for a good fitness tracker that is integrated with The Sparkpeople site. I run both distance and stadium stairs.My Stadium stairs running is with weights and no weights. ( I do arm lifts while I run) Also do the insanity workout at times. I would like something that can track all of this. Any thoughts?

hey, I got my notification for next batch of order. It is now available for pre-orders of wave 2. Delivery expected in July. I have been waiting 1 year for this to happen, and held of buying a smartphone to be sure I'd get the right stuff. Will you get one too?? check amiigo.com
I have a FitBit One and absolutely love it! I purchased it back in February (2013) and wear it every day...all day...except when I shower...it even tracks your sleep. I like to make myself walk more steps than I did the day before. ;)
LABABLA, I knew about the Amiigo. I have the Nike+ Fuelband, but the Amiigo looks awesome and I'm definitely interested in it. According to their website, it is supposed to come out this summer. Hopefully it does!
If you have a smartphone - TrackMyRun is a great free app that also has a website that you can use to manage your account. You can see routes other users have created (awesome when looking for routes when traveling or are looking to change up your own routine), create your own routes.
It tracks your speed, elevation gains, everything and has some reports for tracking your fitness gains over time.

I have a FitBit Zip which is a glorified pedometer but there are other FitBits that have more features if you want them. I bought mine off of Amazon for $48 and free shipping. You could also spring for a heart rate monitor or buy a device that incorporates the heart monitor and pedometer features and you'll be all set up!

I was given a voucher for my Bday for either Jawbone UP or FitBit, but since I don't have a Smartphone my colleagues couldn't buy any of them (hence the voucher). I looked at their features and it doesn't really provide me added value. ..but still interested in the aspect of such tools. So I found about Amiigo, which seems to be a promising device. What I really would look for into such device is that it knows what I am doing and can't tell if I am in the right direction, or overtraining or not enough training and I should rather do (provided I have to manually enter my weight and maybe fat %). If say I am doing strength training and my data show better than if I do steady state cardio...because when I sit for too long, I know I sat for too long. When I do 4 push-ups, I know I did 4 push-ups!...so the tools has to be 1 step beyond my eyes. If anyone heard about Amiigo, had the first prototype in hand or knows about another brand that would match what I am looking for, please let me know;)

I have a body media fit and love it. It tracks the calories you burn throughout the day. Tracks moderate and vigorous activity. It tracks the number of steps I take. It tracks how many hours I sleep and how efficient it is. I can also enter my calories and it tells me what my deficit or surplus is for the day. When I entered my food. I was going for a 1000 calorie deficit a day. It was about a 2 lb loss per week.
Check out their website bodymediafit.com They actually have something to where you can compare different types of gadgets and see what is best for you.
Just an idea or my 2 cents. Good luck finding what you are looking for.
I got mine for $160 with tax and now pay $6.95 a month for updates on the software. :-)

Your 250 or less budget should give you a lot of options.
A good basic heart rate monitor, you should be able to fine one for around $100 or less (if you look for sales). If you won't be wearing it swimming and have a smart phone, you can find a bluetooth strap for possibly less (thought they are expensive for straps, but if you get one that works with your phone you won't need the watch unless you want to wear it for water activities or maybe where there is no cell phone reception). If you want to wear it swimming or walking where there is no phone reception, a good "old fashioned" watch and strap combo could easily be found within this price range.
A new, full featured fitbit runs around $99. But sometimes you can find good deals on the previous model (that is retiring but still works). And they have a new one with slightly fewer features around $50.
Bodymedia, Jawbone up, Nike Fuel are also all less than $250 and I think more than the $99 fitbit. A pedometer would be cheaper still. You could even get a fitbit or pedometer and a heart rate monitor within that budget (not sure about the other trackers mentioned). So the main thing is what you will get good use from and find motivating.

I have a fitbit, Polar heart rate monitor, a pedometer (I had a few cheap ones), a Nike+ and a smart phone.
Of those I use: My fitbit, my heart rate monitor and my smart phone. I used the Nike + and pedometers for a while but for different reasons stopped using them. I didn't get all these at the same time. Knowing what I know now, if I were to buy again, it would be the phone, fitbit and heart rate monitor.
Which one if only one? If it were just for fitness tracking either the heart rate monitor or the fitbit depending on what I want to focus on. Here is why: *The fitbit is good for motivating you to move throughout the day. The distance and speed estimates are pretty good for me but I did test and calibrate my walking and running strides on a track. I found it more accurate in distance than my Nike+, but I never calibrateed the Nike+ so perhaps that is unfair. So if your main activity is walking or jogging, the fitbit may be good for tracking your exercise too. I mainly like it to generally track how active I am throughout the day outside exercise. I also use it for the energy balance comparing the calorie burn to what I log on spark. That works fine for me personally, I must be in fitbit's sweet zone in estimates, but that probably varies by the person. There are other gadgets that sound great for motivation and overall activity tracking too. I only have used the fitbit and it as worked well for me so I haven't acquired any others. A good pedometer might do this for you as well, the ones I had were bulky in comparison to my fitbit and over and under counted steps to the point where I just could not trust it. The fitbit I wear on my bra and whenever I test it is usually tracks accurately. It is small enough no one sees it and I forget about it until I want to check my stats. It has no subscription fee to see the archives on the website. When I looked at various competitors from time to time, I find that fitbit is at a great price point given everything I can do with it. A pedometer would be cheaper, I just haven't personally had a good experience with them. *If you want something to track intentional exercise and a variety of aerobic exercises and are interested in using heart rate training or as a way to see improvements in fitness Then perhaps a heart rate monitor is best. I was using one before I had a fitbit and would go through pains withdrawing from it (though the same with my fitbit).
I actually use the two together and use a heart rate monitor app on my iphone that can sync some of my intentional workouts directly to my fitbit account. You could do a lot of the things a fitbit could do with apps on the smart phone to some extent. I just prefer having a tiny discreet device do it rather than running an assortment of apps and carrying my phone everywhere. Most of the time my phone sits on a table or my desk as I rarely wear clothes with pockets so a lot of steps would be missed if I used a pedometer app.
Also fitbit can link with a lot of other apps and sites (I think that is also true of bodymedia). So my fitbit account gives me an overall picture of food I logged, sleep, blood pressure, weight, measurements, bodyfat percent estimate and activity over the past year or two. I like having a semi-central place for this information. Now that Spark and fitbit can sync some of the data it is even better.
I think it is really a matter of personal preference and budget though. People have been fit and healthy with no devices. I think most of them do what they advertise more or less. So it is really the one that you will use consistently and be motivated by that is best for you. It is a good idea to research which would meet your wants and needs though since they can be an investment and may have a learning curve involved.
Do you have a 'smart phone'? There are a LOT of free apps for smart phones for tracking your exercise. Like SparkPeople, many have communities with support and teams. I use endomondo.com to track my walks and then I manually put that data in Sparkpeople.

My friend just purchased the $99 fitbit and loves it. Says it makes her move more around the office. it also tracks all day and tells you how your sleeping. It syncs with sparkpeople to upload your exercise, and it downloads your foods from spark to the fitbit. She is really recommending it. She said she ordered it straight from spark which offered free shipping on it as well.

Start with something basic like a Pedometer. See if it helps you & whether or not you use it & track w/ it every day. If you don't, then don't waste the money on something really expensive.
You should be able to pick one up for @$15 +/- (maybe a really nice one for @$30).

I'm looking for something to motivate me to move more and also to possibly track my walks. I'm not a runner (yet or probably ever), but I do enjoy walking and would like a device that encourages me to do so.
