I have been struggling as to whether or not I should invest in something like that and after reading all of these supportive posts - well, I think I will as soon as I have shed the first 10 pounds. That will be my first reward.
I'm thinking of buying one. I wish there was a service where you could rent one for a week to try it before making the investment.

I just got a BodyMedia and started using it last week. So far, I love it. It's helping me focus one day at a time and see my caloric needs. I also love the sleep tracker. It shows how long I slept and the quality. The other night, I only got 4 hours and 44 minutes of sleep due to circumstances beyond my control. Most other nights I get around 7.
Just my two cents worth... you will get the most out of it if you wear it every day. I have a friend who just wears hers once in a while and of course, she never sees results or improvements that way.

I did a lot of research on these items as my step daughter wanted a pedometer for Christmas. I went with a FitBit as it seemed to be the most versatile. I liked the Nike running shoe one, but heard from the shoe store people that the see many people replacing them every 6 months. The Nike band is so obvious and kind of bulky. The FitBit is very discreet and she really seems to love it.
I have tried a couple different gadgets, and I have to say the FitBit is the most comprehensive. The NikeFuel Band doesn't do sleep or food (at least not easily). I really like the Jawbone Up, but it is a bracelet so it is always visible (but it's water resistant) so it can be worn all the time. It's also more expensive then the FitBit.
I love my fitbit. Had it since last March and it has been hugely helpful in me reaching a 65 pound weight loss. RUN, don't walk to get a fitbit. That is my suggestion anyway.

I, too, like the FitBit (I have the Ultra that has now been replaced by the One). However, I ended up "unsyncing" my FitBit from SparkPeople. Sadly, the FitBit calculates ALL of your steps into minutes and then into calorie burn. So when it syncs with Spark, I got one entry only. In other words, I couldn't separate out my TRUE cardio.
So I use Spark for tracking Fitness and Nutrition, then use FitBit for general motivation, steps, stair tracking AND the sleep piece, which is pretty fascinating to me.
I'm wondering if Body Media syncs the same way with Spark? Anybody know?
I've had a Fitbit One for about two weeks, and I love it. Here's what I love about it:
1. Easy to use. It literally has one button. It was easy to sync with the Fitbit online and easy to sync with Spark.
2. It's highly motivating. Seeing how many steps I've taken, how many calories I've burned, how many floors I've climbed -- each day I want to at least match, if not outdo, what I did the day before.
3. Some of the little things about it are great. There's a picture of a flower on it; as you become more active, the flower grows. It's kind of fun to see how many petals you can get on the flower. Also, it gives you little print messages. When I woke up this morning it said, "Hold me, Carrie." Cute. One morning it told me "Vamose, Carrie," which is exactly what I needed to do.
4. I really like the Fitbit graphs of calories in vs. calories burned.
5. Since it syncs with Spark, you can enter your food in the Spark food database, which is better than Fitbit's, and the information automatically flows over.
6. The battery lasts forever. I've charged it once in 2 1/2 weeks, and then it recharged itself completely in about a half hour.
7. It's just sleek and beautiful. It seems well-made. Nice design.
So there's my 2 cents. Like the PP said, I haven't regretted my purchase once.
I had an Omron pedometer for years, and loved it. Last year my hubby and I got fitbits and we both love ours. I like that you can track how much sleep you actually get every night and see how long it takes you to fall asleep, how many times you wake up, etc. It's also really nice to keep track of how many flights of stairs you've climbed in a day. My hubby and I are "friends" on fitbit's website which allows us to see each other's progress throughout the day, so we have an ongoing competition with each other. I have heard that other people have had problems with their fitbit tracking "steps" while they're driving, but I have never had that problem. If a fitbit is in your budget, I'd say do it! I haven't regretted my purchase once.

Looking for users feedback regarding Fitbit or other gadget that has helped track your progress! I'm thinking of getting one and want to know what everyone thinks, which is the best? I do already use a Garmin for biking, that maps my rides and calculates my calories burned!
