I have been trying to get on my bike more too. I can walk all day, but put me on a bike on fairly flat ground and I am wiped out quickly. Keep going and you will work your way up. Great way to work some different muscles.

Way to go! One of these days I am going to break down and buy a bicycle and enjoy the rides...
As someone who has also recently just (re)taken up riding, I can confirm there is a lot to learn beyond just staying upright. Learning to use the gears properly (ie. to keep your pedalling speed high) even when travelling slowly can really help endurance and extending your riding distance. Don't mash a big gear - spin a small one, especially on inclines.

Biking is like being a kid again. Except when you're going up steep hills!!!

Awesome! I love my bike. Like you, I hadn't biked in years until an foot injury stopped my running. Now my bike rides are my favorite part of exercising!

I'm envious..I never learned and now I have to endure the stares and laughs of people who can't handle seeing an adult crash and run into trees.

I used to love riding my bike all over the neighborhood as a kid, and when I was in college it was a great way to get from my apartment to campus. After not using my bike for a couple years I sold it in a garage sale. Since then I've contemplated buying a new one, and this weekend I bit the bullet and bought a bike. Today I took it for a spin.
They're right, riding a bike is like....riding a bike, you never really forget how (you just aren't as good as you used to be!) My first bike ride in 15 years lasted a whopping 10 minutes! When I got home I felt like I had tried setting some new world record or something. I apparently threw the whole "leisurely ride" thing out the window as soon as I climbed on, and was halfway around the "loop" before I finally told myself to stop pedaling so fast. I didn't realize how hilly the route was that I took. Those hills seemed like small inclines when I used to walk that route, but on my bike they felt like huge mountains!
I feel great having completed my first ride around the neighborhood, but I think tomorrow I'm just heading to the parking lot at the local golf course and doing laps! PHEW!
