Walking is good, riding a stationary bike is good, an elliptical machine is good. I started at 317 lbs and was able to do all of these things - just start slow and have a realistic goal until you build up your strength and endurance. Strength training is also important.

I can say from personal experience that it is doable!! emoticon

When I first started out I was over 300 lbs., stationary biking was the only exercise I could do. I started out 30 minutes a day, but I broke it up into 3 sessions of 10 minutes each. That really helped me lose weight so I could start using an elliptical, treadmill, and strength training.

Time to start strength training! Cardio is a necessary part of your exercise program, but too often do people neglect strength training. Strength training will build muscles, increase your calorie burn during cardio, and improve the look of the fat that you do have.

Climb one step and then go back down. Anything is better than nothing. Just keep doing it. Don't give up.

Walking is a great place to start. Just make sure you have a supportive pair of shoes. It's can be so difficult when your first starting out and trying to plan a routein but just get out there on a few gorgeous days and enjoy it.

I need some recommendations of a relatively healthy exercise that a morbidly obese person can do other than swimming. Walking? Particularly for strengthening the legs. Thanks!
