Back pain: do talk to your doctor or better yet, your physical therapist.
My own back pain issues were lower back and the exercises I got helped strengthen me there. I will note that when I was in the severe throes of back pain, I could NOT do these, this is why your physical therapist is going to be useful. He or she can assess you, AND will let you know when you are ready for these.
Even though my back pain has not been around for a while, I am now re-starting my set of back exercises -- for me there are three main and beneficial ones. But you need to work with your professional to know which are going to be the best for you. Sorry about that...
