I formerly taught yoga years ago, and if you have access to a video, that would be an excellent way to get some exercise when you aren't feeling your best. It would help sinus pressure, clearing air passageways, and resetting your organs. At the end, do some deep breathing, thinking about clean healthy air when you inhale (give it a chance to circulate), and pushing out all the germy air when you exhale (visualize it leaving your body). This might sound crazy, but I was NEVER sick the 2 years I instructed. When I feel a cold coming on, I'll pull out my mat & do a quick workout. Doesn't work every time, but it does make me feel better, and helps to loosen up sore body parts.

I actually do the opposite of what SKRUEGES said. If my cold is purely in my head--sniffles,etc.--I run anyway (and usually feel better afterwards). If it's a chest cold--coughing, chest congestion, etc.--I let my body rest, because it affects my breathing. Basically, you just have to play it by ear and do what you feel up to.

If it's in your head you should rest for a few days. Anything below your neck and you can continue working out as normal.

I've had a chest cold for the past week and I'll tell you, exercise has definitely fallen by the way side. Just taking the stairs at work has me coughing and hacking. I'm afraid working out is going to have to wait until I can breathe again.

It really depends. If you have the flu (aches, pains, fatigue, hacking cough), you'd want to lay off any exercise while your body fights off the illness. Doing any exercise could make you feel worse than you already do.
If you have a cold (sniffle), but have some energy, then why not take a walk around the neighborhood ? The fresh air would do you some good.
When a person has a cold, some light cardiovascular exercise can help to open nasal passages. However, you have to listen to your body. If you don't feel well, if you have aches, pains and fatigue, you should lay off for a day or two.
Part of living a healthy lifestyle is learning when to take things back a notch. the right amount of exercise will help keep us fit. Too much exercise can weaken our immune system. So, how do you feel ? if you feel like you have a bit of energy, take a walk. If you feel fatigued, take a couple days off to let your body recover.
Whatever you do, don't go to the gym and spread your germs. If you want to exercise, you need to do this on your own if you feel up to it.
