I think before making an appt with your Dr, you should evaluate what you are eating. You mentioned that you're doing HIIT, are you properly fueling your body for that kind of workout? You need to make sure you're consuming enough healthy fats, carbs and enough calories to give your body and muscles enough energy. Currently my max is a bit over 1600 and I do High Intensity circuit training 6x a week but I still manage to stay within my range and satisfied. Also, are you a beginner with HIIT? If so, your body might be telling you that it's not ready for that kind of workout yet. Most don't realize that a) you need to gradually incorporate HIIT and b) that its not for everyone. I too, often go over my range but I make sure it's because of the extra veggies, fruits and lean meats I consumed and not due to consuming empty calories. So, yes it's ok to go over but just be conscious of your choices and try not to make it a habit.

In answer to your question, yes it is o.k. to exceed your calories once in a while. This isn't about deprivation or starvation, but wise choice of food most of the time, and within your calorie range most of the time.
Are you doing more exercise than normal?
Are you eating enough protein and complex carbs?
Has the change of season affected you?
You mention feeling drained lately, and because of this and the excess hunger, it might pay to make an appointment with your Dr to see if there is a medical issue going on. A simple blood test might be all that it takes to find out!

It's OK to occasionally exceed one's maximum recommended calories upon occasion, right? I've just been so hungry lately, and today, I just *needed* to have an extra serving of carbs, which put me about 70 calories over my max, which is 2000 calories. I haven't been over 2000 for a month or so now. I feel a bit discouraged, but I did complete a HIIT run today and have been just been feeling really drained lately...
