Wear a pad. ;) Or some kind of protection. That way, if you leak, you at least don't have to worry about the giant wet spot on your pants!

I'm a light bladder leakage person. It doesn't matter what I do before a run, I always have to pee. I have to stick close to something with a toilet (or a place outside where I can be discreet) or I have trouble. Walking doesn't do it to me, but running does, every single time.

Oh trust me - I used the restroom about 3 times before leaving, it didn't help. I don't live in a very inhabited area so there isn't a shopping center to run near.

What about using the toilet before going on a run? Although I hate to run with the traffic, you can choose to run near shopping centers where there are public bathrooms.

I have a small loop around my crest that is .43 of km. so it can be nice of for adding a short loop of for doing an short interval. the may block in my neighbourhood is 2.53 km. Thus it allows for a 5 km a 7.5 a 10, etc. by looping around it. There are various paths that connect back that will allow that to be cut in half or a 3rd. I also add various side streets off this and have mapped these so that I can get longer runs without just doing the loop, but all come back to the loop so if I what to cut it shorter I can. Of course I also have some longer out and back runs that provide variation.

PapaMikie you are a savior!! I never would have thought about that. This also may help with the idea of a run seeming short but being way longer by going on these random little loops. Thanks so much for this advice!! Hoping Wednesday will go better - WHOO that was a near disaster today.

I drink coffee to clear myself out first, and if that fails, I find a tree, bush, or alley.

When I run in the winter I deliberately keep my loops short, I may run a long distance, but I try not to run an out an back. (a 10km out and back would mean running 5km away from my start and then turning around and running 5 km back. The problem is they if an issue comes up you are 5 km away from a solution. I made an error on proper coverings for my hands at -26 doing a 20 km out and back and only realized it at the 10km turn around. That left me 10km to get back to a warm place. Not a goog plan)

You can do the same things for making the adjustment to running for other issues. Sometimes when we start running and for some people our intestines tend to become active. So running shorter loops may allow you an exit point. I can run 10 km around my neibourhood without doing circles by run up and down differents streets. This type of circuit allows me to never be more than 5 min away from home, but still to have an interesting and varied run. You may find as you progress in your running your system will settle down a little.

So today I was out on a run. I was at the halfway point when a severe bathroom emergency arose. I was on a street in an unfamiliar neighborhood - so didn't have a place to go to relieve myself. Whenever I tried to run a block (I'm on a run 1 walk 1 plan right now as I work up endurance) the urges got worse, so I did my best to run when possible and walk as fast as I could at other times. This REALLY affected my time, speed, and calories burned. Any hint/suggestions for how to deal with or avoid this problem?
