I'm thankful this message board was here. I have been fighting inflammation and a person at work told me about this diet. For one, I was frustrated because the almonds I use to substitute for gluten, made me a red faced itchy person. Huh, too much of a good thing is a bad thing. And two, WTH! It said all the veggies I love are not allowed, and the nuts I can eat are not allowed... Needless to say, I called my mom and ranted that I was going on a water only diet and give up!

I won't do that, I promise. I am a firm believer in eating real food and avoid processed, so I will do that and track my calories. Eventually, I will be rash free and cough free.

I don't believe it at all. My list had regular coffee and red wine on it, both of which makes me anxious and my heart do crazy things.

Way back when the book first came out, I took a gander... and at A negative, it says I should eat lots of fish. Ha! I HATE (yes indeed, capital letters, HATE) fish. All of them, every single one of them- shellfish included, any way you can think of to fix them. Except occasionally tuna but it has to be in tuna salad, that I make myself, with tons of pickle relish and onion to kill the taste. So I quickly tossed that book aside. It's crap. To my way of thinking.... if it was indeed true to any extent whatsoever.... at least the thought of the foods recommended wouldn't be abhorrent to you.

I lost the weight and have kept it off, eating stuff I like. Like pp's have said, the key is a calorie deficit. It's helpful to eat lean protein and whole grains and low starch vegetables etc-- because they fill you up and nourish your body, unlike a pile of sweets and junk will. Real, whole foods will give you more "bang" for your calorie "buck". But you don't need to resort to gimmicky type stuff to do it.

It has been pretty thoroughly debunked.

I am also an A+ and just naturally want to eat the way that the blood type diet suggests--lots of vegetables, lots of carbs, no meat. Guess what--that's how I gained weight.

By tracking here over a long period of time, I have learned what actually works for me, which happens to be a moderate carb diet with lots of protein.

Anyway... I'm an A and I barely got past the "meat-free" description before I clutched my chest and fell arse over teakettle off my seat. ('Lizbeth! I'm commin' for ya!)

Honestly, these "type" diets just confuse me... I'm not unintelligent, but my eyes will glaze over the second I hear the phrase "endomorph." I'm a Sagittarius; what does that mean I can and cannot eat? Am I only allowed oats, hay, and things I shoot? And the occasional carrot and/or sugar lump as a treat. O.o In numerology I associate with #9, which is the Hermit, which is a Virgo card... so... the last Virgo I was friendly with was a vegetarian.. and it comes full circle. *lol* I'm doomed.

Thanks but no thanks, I'll just stick with watching my portions and busting hump outside. I've never been into fads and trends anyway. ;)

I am type A and if you "google" about the Blood Type Diet you will find mostly negative thoughts.

It doesn't account for a healthy diet.

Your best bet is to use the Nutrition Tracker and try to stay within the various ranges. Do the Spark Program - - - it really does work. I went from 210 to 120 in 16 months.

Also, Cardio is very important. I used Walk Away The Pounds and it helped me slim as I lost the weight. BTW, I was 56 when I did this so it really can be done.

There's now evidence that some of our earliest ancestors also ate each other, and probably stayed slim doing that. We can be pretty hard to catch though so they probably did a fair amount of cardio along with their diet plan.

Seriously, I don't think there is much to this. If you have hit a plateau, you can search this site for a host of ways to break through it. In my case, I just had to wait those pesky things out. Be tougher than the plateau!

Have you ever tried finding what your daily calorie, carbs and fat range is and eating within them? If not - that's why you can't lose weight.

Try that for a month. Let's say your calorie range is 1400-2000 per day, and you ate 1700 every day for 30 days, betcha you will lose weight, while still enjoying food you like.

FYI - vegetarians who eat too many calories every day gain weight just like everyone else.

Eat for your blood type, hair texture, shoe size, and eye color all you want, but if you're not eating to create a calorie deficit, then you won't lose weight.

It's nonsense.

I'm type A plus too. In my case, if I haven't been able to lose weight it's because I haven't been able to step away from the chip and dip plate, not because I'm eating the wrong food for my blood type. Don't believe it.

It's all based on one letter written to a science journal in the 1950s. It was in a forum where older scientists would write about random ideas they'd had and never followed up on, so that younger scientists could get ideas for things that maybe they would want to study. One of the older guys wrote that he had always wondered whether blood type had any relationship to what type of lifestyle one's ancestors lived, and whether maybe as a consequence, there might be some value in trying to live a similar lifestyle now. In the very next issue, people wrote back with all sorts of reasons that it didn't make any sense-- people in the same family can have different blood types, blood types don't cluster very well geographically, blood types don't correlate with other physical features like body type... so many things that the original author wrote back in the *next* issue to say, "Yeah, y'all are right; stupid idea. Glad I never wasted any time trying to study it. Forget I said anything." It's the kind of thing that happens all the time in science. Even brilliant people have three silly ideas for every one brilliant one, and you get together with other brilliant people to help you sort them out.

Then about 5 years later they started seriously sequencing DNA from archaeological remains, and found out that the idea was completely off-- blood types existed before humans were humans.

The guy who wrote the "eat right 4 your type" hokum just picked the idea out of the air to make money. He even based it on the idea that O is the oldest type, but it's not. AB+ is the oldest and O is the most recent-- but it doesn't matter for that theory because all primates have the whole range of types. Having type A blood doesn't tell you anything. There were hunters with type A, gatherers with type A, farmers with type A-- no difference.

Some people do lose weight on the program. It has 4 relatively healthy (though restrictive) diet plans. But you will do just the same on the type O-negative plan. The diets restrict calories, and that's going to work regardless of your blood type.

If you *want* to try vegetarianism, there's no reason not to use that vegetarian diet plan. But if you're skeptical about whether you would want to give up meat, don't. What works is finding a plan that lets you control calories to a level appropriate to YOUR lifestyle, now, not to what your ancestors did for a living.

It isn't based on sound science, and is unnecessarily restrictive. This is a fad, not a lifestyle-changing diet. It doesn't take into account your individual history, needs, and preferences. It also changes based on your ethnicity, another pointless attempt.

For example, if I wanted to do this diet, I'd have to eat dairy.

I'm lactose intolerant.

Yeah, no.

Eat for your blood type...Do you believe in it? I have been having the hardest time losing weight....then a friend asked me what my blood type is. I am A+ which means I should be a vegetarian. I have never been a vegetarian and it would explain why I can't lose weight.

What is your opinion?
