I prefer to work out prior to eating because if I don't my stomach feels very heavy and uncomfortable when I exercise. Try both and see what works for you.

Hi THIRTY42012,

Welcome to the SparkPeople Family! This is really a personal preference. Some people do well eating an hour or so before exercising, while others like to wait until after. That being said if you have gone more than 3 hours since your last meal, you may want to add a small snack before working out, to help stabilize your blood sugar.

I hope this helps!
Coach Nancy

I exercise before eating a meal. I tend to get a stomach ache if I exercise after eating, plus after eating I just want to relax! The only caveat is if the workout is especially strenuous, I may have a banana beforehand for extra energy, but otherwise I will wait to have my meal until afterwards.

Is it better to eat my meal and then exercise or exercise and then eat? This is my second day being a "sparkle" and I wasn't sure. I have not had dinner but I just finished the 30 minutes of treadmill time. Is it ok for me to right after or do I wait for a few? Help and thanks!
