I definitely agree that the majority of TV viewers are what keep shows like "Keeping up with the Khardashians," "The Real Housewives of...," "Jersey Shore," "Here Comes Honey Boo Boo," etc on the air. And "stars" like Paris Hlton, Lindsey Lohan, Kate Gosselin, Kim Khardasian, etc are made because enough people tune-in to view what is going on in their lives, manufactured or otherwise.

I also think back to the heyday of the TV afternoon Soap Operas and some of the prime time ones like "Dallas" and "Falcon Crest." My goodness! The infidelity, lying, cheating, scheming, murdering, etc. And, yet, they were all immensely popular for many years. I wonder if many people don't just plain like "escapist" type of entertainment?

My wife reads around 1-4 novels a week, most of them "crime" or murder mysteries. Her favorite TV shows are "Matlock," "Murder She Wrote," "Law and Order," "NCIS," "Hawaii Five-0,""Grimm," etc. Yet, she is the most gentle, non-violent person I have ever known.

I blame it on society since we are the ones that keep the channels on. For as many of us here that do not watch the stuff there is obviously tons more that do. I got so sick and tired of nothing being on tv that I ended up ditching cable and just getting the basic channels which are 2 - 11. Since doing that I am lucky if I watch 5 hours of tv a week and that helped me get rid of the mindless snacking....

I agree. I also agree that the media fuels the flame and keeps them out there. Right now I'm about sick of Miley Cyres, they even put her antics on the evening news!

I agree! However, our society is the type that keeps fueling all the media attention they get so unless that changes, they won't.

Yeah! As if we were interested in what goes on in their lives. I'm more interested in what goes on in mine! I don't waste time on reality TV! It isn't even reality in the first place!

I agree! The mother is managing her girls for eventual failure.
I think honey booboo is on the same track
Why aren't there more shows like secret millionaire that show people doing good in the world?

It's sad that a reality show about Americans requires subtitles. It's also sad that the same reality show is a hit!

I agree that the Kardashians' rise to fame seems rather bizarre, particularly since the springboard was a sex-tape. I absolutely can't understand why people care enough about their lives to watch them on TV. I don't watch any of their reality shows. However, I found it amusing about myself this morning when I clicked on a news headline about Lamar Odom and read how he may be hiding out in a hotel room doing drugs. And Khloe was quite upset that people were saying nasty things about her family. LOL!

Proposal for a new talk show, same format as The View: Lindsey Lohan, Kim Kardashian, Khloe Kardashian, Paris Hilton, and Amanda Bynes would discuss the latest important news!

I hear ya, but the irony of this thread is, it has actually added to the total number of excessive things-about-the-kardashians that one may encounter online. And this one didn't even have a spoiler warning! Gahhh!!!!

Yes, and the same for Honey Boo Boo, Bill and Guliana , etc. I am flipping channels trying to find something decent to watch and all this cr_p pops up.

I SO agree. There is nothing about them that makes them news worthy or the least bit interesting. I have no idea why anyone would want to watch their antics. Their show is inane and totally irrelevant to real life. Sad state of our lives that this is what is popular.

Lay aside life-harming heaviness and entertain a cheerful disposition.

Our voyeuristic society made them famous.

I am sick of hearing and seeing anything to do with the Kardashian Family, it is time for them to all go away. Whatever made them "famous" must have been a mistake.
