Because there is a malabsorption element to the type of surgery you have had, seeing your medical team/Registered Dietitian is recommended so they can be sure you are taking the correct amount of vitamin/mineral supplementation and eating correctly to maintain proper health and nutrition.

I agree with Cheetara. Ask for a referral to a registered diet who can provide a customized eating plan based on your unique needs. You've got some issues that no one here are qualified to really help you with, and you don't want to make mistakes!

You should speak with your doctor about this. No one on Spark is qualified to answer questions about people who require special diets due to surgery.
You have come a long way and have what it takes to reach your goal weight.

Hi, I do not know anything about this procedure; can you clarify for me that your protein needs are affected by it? Or do you mean anyone of your size and activity level? The nutrition tracker gives a protein range to suit each person; are you not using it?

I had the Duodenalswitch in July of 2000. I initially lost 127 pounds in the first 6 months. Then I stalled. I really had to literally work my butt off the get to 200 pounds.
Now I must confess I haven't taken care of myself the way my surgeon suggested in regards to vitamins. Today I am experiencing fatigue, pain in my arms and legs, hair loss, hard to lose weight, cloudy thinking and some psychosis. I was told that my protein levels may be the direct reason why I am feeling so bad for the past 3 years. For the past week I have added Evolve to my daily diet to help me get some more protein.
I guess my question is what amount of protein do you recommend for me. I currently weigh 285 pounds. I am 5 ft. 7.5 in tall.
