Not all canned soup is condensed. If the recipe calls for condensed soup, use as is. If the recipe calls for canned soup but doesn't say it should be condensed, then mix the can of condensed soup with the amount of water called for, fill the can from the new soup-water mix, add it to your recipe and eat the rest of the soup as is!

In most recipes using canned soup, you only add the soup. The recipe will tell you any other liquids to add (if any).

I would follow what the recipe says. It would tell you to add water if it was needed. I find that most recipes using canned soup have enough liquid and the water isn't needed.

Sorry if this sounds crazy but I was recently fall cleaning my cupboards (throwing all the expired and old foods away) and I realized there were a few cans of condensed cream of mushroom soup in there that expire in Dec. I was thinking that I would use them in a recipe and found a good sounding recipe for a Chicken and Broccoli casserole. I have never made a recipe with canned soup before and was wondering......if a recipe calls for 1 can do I just use the soup in the can as is or do I use the can plus the one can of water like I would if I were making soup?
