.. I certainly always call first! It's polite and guarantees they'll be home.

Call 1st just to make sure the person your are planning to visit is home! I don't like drop by's, which my brother usually does especially when I'm just getting ready for bed!!!
Call first though there are a few people I'll drop in on.

I usually call first. The only exception is my best friend who lives a mile from me. I have to drive by her house every time I go to town, so I stop and say hi quite frequently. I'm a drop in at my house any time type of person. I'm very laid back that way. The one person who I insist calls first is a friend of my husband. He always seems to know when dinners ready and shows up then.

I hate it when people don't call first, so I always call.

I was raised to call first. When my in-laws were sill alive we never called first. It was just like going home. I really miss that. We have never had that with anyone (except our son and his wife).

I usually call first. I know I prefer to have people call me first rather than just drop in. I'm going through chemo and there are just some days I can't really handle having visitors.

I call first. I really dislike drop-in company. When I had my son he was colic, we were eating dinner with him screaming (stressful time), dishes were all over the kitchen and his aunt dropped in and then his cousin. I thought that was very rude of them.

I haven't dropped-in unannounced on someone since college when I walked in on my brother and his girlfriend having sex. I always call first ... and knock!
I was raised to always call first unless it's a family member or certain very close friends, but as an adult I've learned that some people define "best friends" as those you can drop in on (or who will drop in on you.) One of my closest friends recently said that even though she's lived in our city for over 10 years, she doesn't really feel at home because there's no house except her own that she can walk into without knocking. Since then, I've been working on keeping my apartment "drop-in tidy." Of course, she'll still need to call ahead because I'm almost never here, but at least she could try it if she's in the neighborhood.

With some people I call first, and others are just drop by kind of people.

Always call first in this day and age with all the phones no one has an excuse they should know it is a busy world and they need to call first. I ignore people who do not take the time to call first because I am either naked or about to get naked usually when they ring the bell..
