I like water and drink about 10 glasses a day when I am at work. On the weekends I tend to forget until suddenly I feel parched.

Drinking water makes everything else easier.

Since being conscious and consistent about drinking more water, I have noticed that I no longer get hiccups-- and I used to have loud, painful hiccups. I also have far fewer migraine headaches when well hydrated.

If your urine is dark then you're not drinking enough water. If it is light ten that's normal

when I drink plenty of water, I'm not looking for snacks. My digestive system also work better (nice way of saying...less constipation problems).

I fully credit my fluid intake with the fact that I am pretty much able to avoid snacking, except for appropriate/planned snacks needed for exercise.

Of course you are not going to die if you only drink 6 glasses a day, but is your body really functioning optimally at that level? I certainly know that mine would not.

I tend to agree, you need to go with the color of your pee

Check out the MAYO CLINIC website about drinking water. The 64 ozs a day came from a study in the 1960's.

We get most of our fluid needs through the foods we eat. Unless all you eat are crackers!

I realize that this is considered heresy but you really do not need to drink that much. And it doesn't need to be plain water.

if your urine is light yellow and you are not feeling thirsty then you are doing fine. If you are exercising and sweating a lot, if your environment is dry, your mouth is dry etc then you need to drink more.

Even beverages that contain caffeine are okay. If you want to go caffeine free for other reasons then more power to you.

Crystal Light, black or herb tea or other sugar free beverages are fine too. I say SF because you do not want to drink your calories!

You will not lose more weight by drinking more water, you will not fool your body into thinking you are not hungry. You do need to drink enough for whatever your conditions are but don't feel like it has to be 64 ozs a day.

Just my 2 cents :)

It gets easier as you develop the habit and your body really will adjust.

I feel ill and tend to get dehydrated if I don't get 10-12 glasses a day now...but I am a very large and fairly active person--not everybody needs that much fluid!

Your body will adjust to the increase in water intake, but yeah, you may notice an increased need to visit the bathroom some days more than others.

Drinking 6 glasses of water IS really good !! The experts will tell you that you're also getting some of your fluid needs from the food you eat. So, if you have increased the amount of fresh fruit and veggies you eat, that is another source for water.

As the old song goes,"accentuate the positive and eliminate the negative". In short, give yourself more credit for all the positive things you've been doing for yourself these past few days and weeks. every little bit does make a difference.

What size glass are you using? Most regular drinking glasses are 16 oz, which is two cups of water. The 8 cups is eight 8 oz cups, or 64 oz. I use a water bottle that holds 750 ml (around 25 oz) and I drink it empty three times a day. That always feels like an easier goal to reach than 8 cups of water, even though I'm actually going over the 64 oz.

Even if you are counting each serving of water as 8 oz, it's pretty normal (in my experience) to have to go to the bathroom often when you first start drinking more water. It happened to me too, but once my body got used to it after a few days it stopped.

For those of you that do this, great job! I've only gotten down 6 today and if I'm gonna have to use the restroom every 45 minutes I'm not gonna want to keep it up. emoticon
