Well I sure hope this will inspire her as much as it did Savanah. There is a picture of her if you haven't seen it. She's a sweetheart as I'm sure your niece is as well. I'm sure she will feel better too when it starts to come off. I made a big mistake doing her measurements when she started which was a huge disappointment. I didn't have a fabric measuring tape so nothing was accurate so after the 4 weeks when I did the measurements she was UP an inch. LOL every where! I know that's not the case so I was really disappointed with myself for that. She doesn't really understand until I make a big deal out of it so it didn't affect her at all, just her dumb mother. LOL Let me know how it goes. Love to hear. HUGS

I'll be seeing my mom and my niece this weekend, and I'll bring them online to show them this thread so they can see your comments. I know my niece would be thrilled with the trophies as well, since she's VERY proud of her bowling trophies and shows them to everyone who visits.

I know my mom is very concerned about my niece's health. None of us want to lose her early. She's just way too precious to us to want to even consider that!

I really think the part that keeps her so interested is that she loves the computer and gets to "spin the wheel" she loves seeing the water splash over when she drinks all of her water and the trophies she's getting. It's all a big game but in order to "play" the game she has to eat. Eating is a great thing and her making the breakfast, lunch and helping with dinner is just fun for her. We try creating new things. I have to be honest, I do have a bit of trouble tracking things because we make a lot of stuff on our own, so I know the calories are not very accurate but it's still working great for her. She is gone to my parents place this weekend and her grandparents are very supportive with this and make a huge deal when she looses a pound so she gets pretty excited. It's a little hard for my Mom to track this but she helps her the best she can. I told her the measuring is the most important thing for Savanah. It's the over pouring and over big scoops that are a big part of the problem. So that alone has made a big difference. What I've enjoyed so much about this site is that they have these "fun" things on here to keep her interest going. Savanah is very high functioning so although small to some people these are 'big" to her. I also have a brother with downs and he's 45 and Very slim. They are hanging out this weekend and Savanah makes lunch for both of them and now he's only allowed to have what's she's having. LOL I think it's hilarious and Darren is so easy going he doesn't care. He will eat anything put in front of him. I really hope this helps your niece as I know it is a struggle with the majority of downs people. Savanah is also lazy unless it comes to dancing so I have enrolled her in a line dancing program and she is Loving it. What ever works... :-) Thanks for your support and message, let me know if it happens.

While I don't have a child with Down's, I do have a 22 year old niece with Downs. She is also struggling with her weight. I'll have to suggest to my mom (whom she lives with) that they try Spark. So far my niece hasn't been too interested in anything else they've tried to help bring her weight a little more under control.

Tell Savanah hi from a member of another Down's family!

Yes she is a blessing. I also have a brother who just turned 45 last week with Downs as well and he is very slim which is unusual for Downs. We were going to adopt a child with Downs but were certainly blessed to have Savanah.

Bless her little heart. While I don't have any children with Downs, I have worked with plenty as a sub. They are just the sweetest folks to work with. My prayers are with you guys.

I have a daughter with Down Syndrome, 27 and this was her first week using Spark and she has lost 4 pounds now. She loves spinning the wheel. I have her tack her food every day as I sit beside her to make sure it's put in right. Just wanted to share a moment. I really hope she stays interested. I'm not sure if there is anyone out there with a Down's child/adult but would love to chat.
