Originally I was going to try a knock off of the Italian sausage bowl, but where I recently made a knock of of Alice Springs Chicken, I decided to do the Chicken Carbonara instead where I already had chicken and bacon on hand. Mine came out very good tasting and much lower in calories and fat then domino's. Mine came out to be about 699 calories and 70 from fat. I didn't cheat and call one bowl two servings.

When I first this commercial. My thoughts were a Heart Attack in the making. Then calories and sodium intake. No Thanks!

They havent arrived in the UK yet but they dont look that good (although I cant believe they are only $5.99).

Think about it, you all know you can make much better pasta than the crap Dominos will serve you, fresher, tastier stuff that is way more healthy.

According to this weeks Time Magazine this Pasta Bowl is "predictable" just another food product to pack on the carbs for us Americans.

Too fat for my blood....well probably not...but to rich for sure. Not even tempted. On a roll and riding this wave as long as I can. Nearly 1500 calories in some of those bowls!!! Yikes!! Please pass me some one of those, uhh...Plastic bowls, not a bread bowl!

I'm in it for the WIN! And I'm gonna dance like no ones watching!

I still want to try one. :) Maybe I'll split it with 3 other people as a treat.

Yuck!! I see commercials for those things nearly daily and I just think it's disgusting!! How could anyone ever think they needed a meal that was so high in fats and carbs?? Not to mention the fact that it's huge...

5/24/09 6:42 P

i think it's gross.
way to go dominos- you've successfully paired up 3 of the most fattening foods.
cheese, bread, and pasta.

The more I dont eat things like that the more I dont want them...It doesnt appeal to me NEAR what it use to lol...

I did order a Pacific veggie pizza from dominoes (thin crust) added some extra veggies and chicken and light cheese...It taste wonderful and the cals were not bad at all...Maybe try that as an alternative...

ugh my stomach hurts just thinking about eating that. I can't tell you the last time I had "fast food" If I am going to eat that stuff I try to stick to subway veggie sub. fixes it all for me.

They do look yummy but I have switched to fibergourmet pasta and feel so much better mentally.

I figured they'd be crazy high in calories (actually, I assumed they'd be MORE than they actually are). I mean, bread bowl + pasta from dominos... what can we really expect from that??

the commercial doesn't appeal to me at all but i always am interested in how many calories things are at fastfood places AND regular resturants. There is really no way to escape the 1500 calorie meals anywhere :(

I definitely ate one of these the other day *facepalm* Oops. It was indeed tasty, but I couldn't get over how bad I felt about eating it. Even when I bought it I said "this is definitely a one-time-only purchase" haha - It was one of those "crap, I just ate like 3000 calories" type of deals. Ok, not quite that many, but still- not worth it!! It was good, but not that good. So, resist my fellow sparkers..change the channel on those ads! lol

Ahahahah!! I found this topic very entertaining and am happy to find myself amongst others that are riveted by these bread bowl commercials. They appeal to the very worst in my fast food eating nature. :) I feel guilty and 5 lbs heavier just watching the commercials. My boyfriend thinks they look gross so I am in no immediate fear of being confronted with one. But I think I would have to decline anyway because I think if I seriously ate one, it would immediately put at least 5 lbs on me - no joke.

I am glad that I do not enjoy bread bowls.

It's amazing that our entire country isn't obese, with meals like this.

My husband and I were talking about these the other day - the commercial came on and they look soooo good - but my husband and I both made comments on how much calories were probably in them! When you think about it though, its really no different from going to Carl's Jr and ordering one of their combo meals - I am sure they have just as many calories...Its all about making "healthier" choices...

You know, there aren't as many calories in them as I thought there would have been!

I always see ads for these, they don't appeal to me too much though, just too much bread with the pasta!

5/23/09 11:54 A

Holy Cow!

Neat site. I've book marked to explore more later. I love seeing that stuff so I know what to steer clear of....although you can just look at that one and know it's a big no-no!

5/23/09 11:49 A

I knew those things were caloric bombs. They don't appeal to me; that's too much frigging bread. I don't even like having bread on the side with spaghetti.

I especially love how they claim a "serving" is 1/2 a if anyone will really split one of those bowls. Of course, they're not the only food manufacturer that plays these games. Progresso Soups run commercials bragging about their low-cal soups that are only "100 calories a serving!" Of course, they conveniently neglect to mention that they define a "serving" as 1/2 a can. I don't know any adults who would eat only 1/2 can of soup; perhaps a child would eat that small a portion, but not an adult. They can make all the excuses they want; it's deceptive marketing, and as consumers, we must always be on the lookout for it, and make sure we carefully pick apart the NI labels.

5/23/09 11:47 A

I have to admit in a moment of weakness (read - LAZY), I have had the Chicken Carbonara bread bowl. OMG was it gooooooooood!!! I was very disgusted at the grease ALL over the place leaking out of the bread bowl. That was not enough of a deterrent to keep me from eating the entire thing though.

Like I said, it was a moment of weakness. I will NOT cave again! Especially now that I know what the calories are! UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a local pizza places that makes great pasta, but I couldn't eat a bread bowl with it. Ugh.

I don't care for Dominos pizza anymore..

OMG! WOW, thanks for sharing, I knew they were high cuz they just look one of those meals that you will get so stuffed with that you will fall asleep right after and wake up 5 pds heavier. Not tempted by them, BUT I will say Dominos has these hoagie sandwiches that I have tried that are OMGOODNESS Delicious....Im sure crazy in calories

These look very good to me too despite the calorie count. I plan to make a healthy knock of these at home, the Italian Sausage Marinara one.

As horrible as this may sound, I still want to get one every time I see the commercials. I never will, but it's always on my mind when I see ads for it. Haha.
