As Coach Nancy noted, take some time off to get over this cold/flu. a 5K is nothing to worry about. they are for FUN and fitness. I just did a 5K yesterday. I wasn't the first and I wasn't the last either. There are lots of people of different abilities and ages. When you're running, you're going to pass people and people are going to pass you.
Unless you're an elite runner, you're going to be in the middle of the pack. And that's okay. If you find you need to walk part of the race, that's okay too. Like I said, 5Ks are for fun. Just enjoy yourself when it's time.

The best deal is to allow time for your body to fully recover and accept whatever you can do when the event takes place. You can't rush the process for your body to adapt in just a few short days. Focus on getting well and consider another event for you to put your best effort into.
