When I interned as a zookeeper I walked probably a total of 7 miles a day. I didn't track it as 7 miles of walking a day but I knew I had to track something. I was so active during the day that all I wanted to do when i got home was sleep. During most days I didn't spend any extra time exercising due to how much physical labor was involved in my work . Because of this I would track it as '1 hr of farmwork' a day.

Every little bit helps. When I go shopping, I park further away to get some extra walking in. Where at all possible, I use the stairs instead of the escalator or elevator.

I would not count as exercise, but it is very good that you have movement during the day. I have found that you cannot exercise away a mostly sedentary lifestyle. emoticon

Weight is the result of what you have been doing for the past week.

Its not cardio exercise, but it burns more calories throughout the day then sitting at a desk job. So as others suggested, you should update your tracker to being moderatley active.

I think it counts as part of your goal as getting your steps in but it doesn't count for your power walking. (just my opinion) emoticon

I live close to a lot of amenities so I walk a lot every day. Most things are less than 1 km from my house. The grocery store is a 5 km, 3 mile (round trip) walk, but when I walk there I just get a few things, whatever can fit in a backpack.

I count my walking as exercise.

I agree with what many have said here. Make sure your nutrition tracker is set to the proper level of activity. But, just regular walking is not exercise it's just activity and there is a difference. There are several articles here on spark that answer the question "what counts as exercise" I would browse some of those articles to help you make the choices right for your mind and body :)

Being active in the way you describe is good, but it isn't a substitute for exercise for a couple of reasons:

* we all got to the weight we are by doing what we do. So to lose weight, we need to do more.
* the stop-stop nature of the walking doesn't keep your heart rate elevated for an extended period in the same way as more focussed exercise does, and therefore doesn't give you the same health and fitness benefits.

When you enter your information into the nutrition tracker, it asks you some lifestyle questions. So, how did you answer the life style question ? Did you say you had a sedentary day ? moderate or active ?

Depending on how much walking you do, you'd probably be considered moderately active.

What we do as part of our normal day isn't considered exercise even though we are being active. Exercise is that little extra something we should do when we might not be as active during the day as we should.

I guess if your on your feet because of your lifestyle, ie working, I would classify your activity level higher. If you just walk a lot because you can then I would count as exercise.

It doesn't count as exercise but make sure your nutrition tracker is set to "lightly active" or "active" so your base range is correct based on how much you're on your feet everyday.

I think it does, to some degree. I think it counts for something but I wouldn't say it is the same thing as doing 30 minutes of cardio several days a week (although I am sure it feels like it should). Do you have a pedometer? You can set up your fitness tracker to count the number of steps you take throughout the day.

Does walking all day or someone who is a waitress and a busy one does any of that count as excersise or tracking worthy or does that just count as your day to day calorie burning
