I give you credit for making these changes. I am also over 50 and just last year I decided I needed to make changes. I started riding my bike about 10 miles 3-4 days a week, and walking at least 3-5 miles almost every day. I also joined a gym, but had to let it go due to finances (daughter starting college). I am not vegetarian, but I try to eat more veggies now.
30 min a day for 4 days is a great start - now try and increase that to 5 days, or 40 min a day. My goal is to track my food better. I've been slacking on that. You will reach your goals! Lots of support here, so use it! Good luck

30 minutes 4x/week does not sound like a lot of effort. I know that if I want to lose weight, I need to get in more than an hour of fairly intense exercise, six days a week. It sounds like you might need to adjust your expectations a bit.
It is hard to maintain a vegetarian diet without getting way too many carbs. You might want to play around with your carb intake and see if lowering your carb consumption makes any difference.
Are you eating enough? Sometimes people believe they are helping themselves by staying at the low end of their range but it holds them back from reaching success. Perhaps making sure you are aiming for the top end of your range on cardio days and in the mid range on strength or non-workout days will help get things moving. Here is a link to the first of three articles we have on busting a plateau that might help you find what you can tweak to get things moving in the right direction.

If it's body shaping as in weight lifting and conditioning then it could be possible that excess is turning into muscle possibly. Maybe you should do measurements and also check into that when you weigh-in.

Just want to vent a minute. Male, 50+, need to lose abt 40 lbs here. I've made some fairly significant life changes in the past couple of months. I went from a traditional American diet (hi-carb, hi-fat) to essentially vegetarian. And I went from very sedentary and inactive to doing 30 minutes of cardio/body shaping 4 times a week. I lost 8 pounds the first month - not bad for me. But since then I've hit a plateau, even have gained a couple of pounds. It's not that what I'm doing is hard, it's just that I'm putting in considerable effort and dedication and I guess I'm expecting (which means I feel like I deserve) some positive feedback when I step on that scale. I know I'm better today than I was, and every day is a step toward that healthy lifestyle we all are seeking, but seriously, what is going on here?
