Carpal tunnel can be caused/exacerbated by metabolic disease and hormone imbalances.

I had terrible carpal tunnel and was on the verge of having surgery when I discovered that I had a very serious pituitary problem. Once I got treatment for that, the carpal tunnel disappeared. This was not a possibility that the orthopedists mentioned AT ALL.

Have you ever been evaluated by an endocrinologist?

Hi - I have had Carpal Tunnel in both wrists, and ended up having surgery on them both at the same time (not a good idea if you are young and still menstruate, as my husband and I found out the day after - LOL! As far as the Morton's neuroma is concernned, have you tried an ice massage? ..... and/or looked at different types of footwear? Often restrictive footwear or high heels and a large cause of this problem. I understand that it would be very painful.

How do you get on for exercise? It might be that chair exercises and/or mat Pilates would be a good choice for you.

I understand completely about the carpal tunnel, I have it in both wrists, the left one worse(had surgery but it wasn't effective for long sadly) but I do admit it has been less painful since I have lost weight and learned to do weight training with it. It has been a several years long process but I still wear a brace on my left wrist and sometimes wear one on the right too when I am weight lifting for exercise. But it does and will get bearable--do speak with your doctor first and see their recommendations--then start with walking...you can do it! emoticon emoticon

Hey girl,

I'm not a fellow sufferer of carpal tunnel but I have a couple significant health concerns (RA and fibromyalgia) that make relating to your situation pretty easy.
It's tough when you first move out because you have freedom, freedom to eat healthy and exercise and do what you want, and then you have FREEDOM to eat too much, not have anyone looking over your shoulder, making YOU accountable all the time and if you don't feel like exercising, you're free to skip it. Tough right?

The good news is that you can start small. Use your meal planner, go meal by meal. Do positive reinforcement, write yourself inspiring notes, post them everywhere. On the fridge, on the cupboards, on the mirror.

Do little bits of exercise, 10 minutes at a time if that's all you can do. Three ten-minute sessions add up to 30! SparkPeople has so many short videos that are AWESOME.
I re-gained some weight that I had lost too, when I was very close to goal. I'm basically starting over and I'm taking it one step at a time. You can too! Best and hugs, Teresita

Hello everyone...I'm back. Back with another 10 pounds of jiggles. :(

A few months ago I went from 242 down to 221. I dropped two pant sizes and I was feeling great! Although I'm still a size 16...I've gained 10 pounds.
I just moved into my first apartment and for the first time I am buying my own foods. However, even the healthy things I'm eating, I am over eating! I also don't know anyone where I live- just immediate family so not having a friend that can relate to my issues or help me along the way is really difficult.

When I go out, I buy ice cream and cookies and have no self control. I feel like a mess...so discouraged.
I want to start working out at home, like doing zumba and following exercise videos but I find every excuse not to do it.

I'm also going to the doctor tomorrow to find out why my hands are hurting and getting numb. I've got a mortons neuroma in my foot and my toes also go numb. Two years ago I got the carpal tunnel test done and basically the doctor told me I was obese and need to stop eating junk food. And since then I continued with numb hands in hopes that with weight loss it would go away- wrong.

So tomorrow we will see what I have- hopefully- after some excruciating nerve shocking pain.
Sorry about the disorganized post, I am so scatter brained right now.


Does anyone have advice? Fellow spark people with carpal tunnel?
