I quit for about 2 years, started back up about a year ago and have one about once a week. I just can't seem to give it up this time. I went 17 days in March and then caved. Tried again in April and went 4 days. I will keep trying though. I'll get there.

I was addicted to diet soda, but recently I kicked the habit. In January I started to drink water all the time and gave up diet soda. One day at work I was looking for a munchie...ran into a store and got a healthy treat...baked chip of some type and a bottle of diet soda. Enjoyed the chips, opened the diet soda took on sip and closed it....it tasted so bad!! As of that day I have not touched it. Just yesterday I thought of having some diet soda but then I thought, "Do I really want to go back to drinking diet soda?" Needless to say after taking a minute and thinking about my choices, my choice was water!

I am trying to drink both soda and coffee less! I drink diet but still know I should really try to stay away from it!

I have come a long way - I stopped regular soda - went to diet soda - and now may only drink 1 or 2 a week if that - but I have started another addiction - COFFEE - I drink coffee all day long now - all day - gotta work on that now

I am working on breaking my diet soda addiction. Frankly, though, I'm absolutely thrilled that I broke my addiction to regular soda. If I have ups and downs in this struggle, I'll deal with it.

I try to limit myself to a few sodas a week. I have quit drinking soda in the past and it took a while to get rid of the headache and my mindset that I just have to have one. Great alternative drink for me is flavored water.

I have not had a diet soda since Feb 28th, and it is crazy how much weight is falling off! This is what has kept me motivated to keep drinking coffee, tea, or water instead! emoticon

Yeah, I have been a diet soda addict. Recently, I've given it up almost cold turkey. It's going pretty well so far.

I must admit I struggle to drink water alone and would prefer diet coke etc. So I have starting drinking water with half a lime or lemon squeezed into it. Makes the water taste a lot better........ Just an idea!

I am celebrating 24 hours with out my diet cherry dr pepper. You can laugh, but I would easily put down 6+ cans of the stuff a day! I feel like i'm the only person in the world that knows what that is like! I'm making it though. And in just 24 hours i have at least tripled my water intake haha. Anybody out there know how I feel? Oh and lets not even talk about the caffeine withdraw headaches ugh lol. emoticon emoticon

I was also an addict, but one night I heard John Tesh talking about reasons why we shouldn't drink it & what it does to our bodies. For some reason, this just really convinced me. I gave it up that day. My key is to stay away from it because once I have it once, I rationalize having it again... It's like my crack! Here's a link to the article: http://www.tesh.com/story/cc/1/id/24088

Hope this helps!

I used to drink a lot of diet soda but gave it up because of problems with my teeth (diet soda is really bad for teeth). Now, if I just take a sip of some diet soda I can't stand the taste of it.

2 weeks. I set a lower number limit every few days. I try caffiene free when I can. I keep a glass of water in the kitchen while I cook. I also tried flavored water mixes until I found one that I liked. For me, just cutting out the diet drinks caused cravings and a few a day will not hurt. Good luck!

i used to drink diet mt. dew every day about 3 cans a day. I am trying to live a better, healthier life and made a conscience decision to not drink soda anymore. I am still addicted to caffeine, which i get from coffee and also a water additive called MIO. I really like it. I will order diet coke when we go out to eat, but that is not often. My advice to you would be to take it slow. Get your caffeine from other sources (tea, coffee, ect..) but stay away from the soda. Good luck you can do it!!

I was totally addicted to Pepsi Max and Coke Zero. I have read so many articles warning that it is so bad for you. I shared that I wanted to quit with my granddaughters, 9 and 6.5 years old and PurplePinkPants. They got on me!!! Poured my rather expensive "drug" down the drain numerous times and brought me ice water instead. How can you disappoint such loving acts of kindness. I feel so much better. I can't believe what a difference it has made in my life. Big news... I started dropping weight and found it easier to avoid sweets altogether! Do it! It is soooooooo much better to feel good than to feel that .......liquid poison run over your tongue to swell your belly!

I usually am one to think that I should not give anything up entirely, but soda seem a little different to me. After 3-4 days with no soda, I don't really feel like I want it anymore. But then if I go out or something and have a soda, then it feels like I really want it more, and I am starting over again.

Hi Jayna, and welcome to SparkPeople.

First of all, you are definitely not alone in this. There are many people out there who have trouble with soda, diet or not. You may find that you have that craving for soda for quite some time yet.

There are many benefits to switching over to water from soda. There is just no nutrition in soda in any form.

I just started SparkPeople today and I am a huge diet soda drinker. So I am trying to stop and I was wondering about how long it took you to stop craving the diet soda and actually enjoy drinking water.
