WELCOME TO SPARK!!! Congrats on taking the first step into changing your life to a more healthier one by joining the site. Spark is filled with amazing people that will motivate, support and encourage you on your journey. There is so much to learn and discover here, take this one day at a time. A couple of things I would like to suggestion to make you Spark experience a great one.
1. Make goals for yourself. Each month I make a list of what I want to accomplish that month and break them down to smaller goals to work with week by week. This way the BIG picture doesn't seem so big.
2. Join Spark teams. There are tons of teams here and you will be able to find ones that fit to what you like or want in a team.
The key to success here is to be active and you've already started by joining. You will find that everyone is willing to help you out if you need it. The stress never stops (you're alive after all!), so take care of yourself. I'm a type 2 using low carb to control no pills. Look around, there's lots of groups to join.

Hi everyone. Today was my first day here, the first time that I ever had heard of Spark People, and I am amazed and overwhelmed by so much info and by so many helpful people. I was diagnosed over ten years ago. For the first five to six years, I had slimmed down, cross trained every day, and controled my type 2 diabetes without any drugs. Now, I moved away from my walking buddy and my wonderful YMCA, got lonely and lazy, and a lot of the weight crept back. With the weight came higher glucose numbers, then pills, and my doctor says that if I continue this way, I'll be on insulin. There's also been a lot of stress from recent breast cancer (all clean, with the best possible reports), two kids in college, and my mother-in-law moving in with the family for medical reasons.
So, now is the time for me to turn this around. Thanks for being there to help!
