First of all, forget everything you've ever learned aboput cooking batches and start over!
Secondly, keep those grandchildren as your Sparks to live longer and forget about being scared about failing!
Lastly do everything you are supposed to. Commit to yourself. Be patient and take it day by day. It's amazing what you can start doing in a chair for exercise. Get out and start taking short walks and build on that. It's imperative that you do start some kind of exercise. Stay active on SparkPeople and absorb the motivation and energy from others.
I can share this all with you because in May I will be 62! I reached my goal inside of a year doing everything I've told you to do. It's all here. The only thing I was afraid of was not seeing the next day and I got over that when I started a new life's journey of a healthy lifestyle. NOW I'm really living so I can run the beaches with my granddaughter and act like a fool! I wish you the very best. Be well and make it happen!

Things to remember that will help you reach your goal:
Be sure to track your water you drink. You need to drink 8-8oz glasses of water a day – just one at a time throughout your day and you can reach this goal.
Use your nutrition tracker daily: tracking your food at first will seem difficult but over time it will become second nature.
Use your fitness tracker: Get active/exercise: just 10 minutes here and there adds up quickly. Park your car further from the store and walk. Take stairs rather than the elevator, etc.
Remember this is one step at a time, one minute at a time, one day at a time and it all adds up. Don’t feel you need to start with 30-60 minutes in one sitting at first. It will come in time.
Remember this is about changing your life style not dieting. So do it little at a time, in baby steps. Don’t expect miracles right away…again it is a life style change!!! And over time you will begin to notice the difference in how you feel, your energy level, and how you look.
Post your questions and concerns: Don’t be afraid to ask question or seek out help. We are all on the same journey but at different levels of that journey.
Setbacks can be and are a part of this journey: Don’t let them dictate your mood or progress. Let it go and keep moving forward. Keeping your focus on your goal and you will reach them in time.
Celebrate: Celebrate all your accomplishments. (Set small goals for yourself so you have a way of seeing your progress) Do this through blogging, posting updates and rewarding yourself.
What SparkPeople has done for me: I am a type 2 diabetic that is off all my medicine. (I was on 5 orals plus insulin now down to 1 oral which I go off of Feb 1, 2012). Let me tell you how God and SparkPeople have and are helping me: Wow, I have always been heavy and at my peak I was 345lbs. With God’s help and the tools on SparkPeople I have been able to lose 175lbs to date reaching my goal as of 2-2-12. I am now on a new journey of maintaining this weight. And I know with God’s help and SparkPeople tools you can do it too!! (I have always recognized that it’s God who has enabled me to be who I am and to accomplish all I have accomplished)

I am a 2 1/2 year new widow. I have been VERY depressed and have gained SOOOO much weight and I am scared I won't be able to stick to ANY diet/healthy lifestyle plan. However, I am determined to TRY for my grandchildren. One of my granddaughters (she was 10) asked me if I knew why she liked to spend so much time with me, when I said no she replied " I love you and I'm afraid that what happened to grandpa will happen to you and I won't get to tell you goodbye either." She told me that over a year ago but I just realized that maybe I can postpone my demise if I take better care of myself. I WANT to be around with them for a LONG time. I'm 62 and I live alone now. It is very hard for me to cook for one. I'm the oldest child in a family of 10 and we had 3 children (along with ALL their friends) so I've always cooked LARGE batches of everything. Even when my husband was in the military he would stop at the barracks to ask who wanted to come home with him for a homecooked meal or else he would have to eat the same thing for a week. Anyway, I need ALL the help I can get. I still work so this weekend I am cleaning out my pantry and going HEALTHY FOOD shopping. Sunday the 12th is D-Day for me! Copying recipes from this website and hopefully I will accomplish something! Wish me LUCK!!
