Aspartame stalls many people's weight loss, and real water doesn't. If it is not an issue for you, then drink up the Crystal Light, but for some people, they can't consume it, and lose any weight. So it varies by the individual.
Also, if you actually drank water for 3-4 weeks and nothing else, you would love the taste of water, and drink plenty of it. That is a scientific fact. We adapt. The reason we don't adapt is that we never give ourselves a chance to. We keep consuming sweet things, that mess up our taste buds. Within a month, our habits can change.
Lastly, the lack of evidence that aspartame is harmful is not quite the same as proof that it is NOT harmful.
Clark - probably both helped. If I drink one Diet Coke, I get cravings, and weight loss stops, even if I don't eat any extra calories. Eating less junk food obviously helps too, both in reducing calories, and eliminating cravings. The second is much better researched, since we have studied it longer, but many people have noticed the reduction in cravings, when they stopped consuming aspartame too. It varies by the individual though, and for some people aspartame/Crystal Light, are not a problem .. yet. lol. Sorry, had to add that in.
Artificial sweeteners seem to make my son go to the bathroom a lot, so I don't buy them for the kids.
I used to drink a lot more diet drinks than I do now. I seem to crave less junk food since I nearly stopped drinking diet drinks. I am not saying it has anything to do with the diet drinks-it was just me. Maybe I crave less junk food because I started eating less junk food.

I hate artificial sweetners, but not cause they are dangerous. study after study proves in moderation they are no more dangerous than just about anything else we eat as modern humans.
I just hate the taste, they are like almost "uber" sweet...
I tend to use celestial seasons herb teas to flavor my water. Same kind of light taste, but without all the sweet.

There is little evidence to back of the claims of the deadly nature of artificial sweeteners. In moderation, they're fine. I would hardly say someone is "killing themselves" by having a little crystal light now and again.
It's a better option than soda, and for people who don't like plain water, is an easier way to get fluid.

From personal experience aspartame was the cause of my awful migraine headaches for 25 years of my life!!! Until a family member told me to look up the dangers, I do not take anything that has artificial sweeteners. And I no longer get those horrible headaches. Water is my best choice.. 25 years of killing myself..
I agree with you. It's nice to change up water to lemonade.
I also like to make lime-cucumber water and have that when it's really hot outside. It's nice and refreshing.

Water is water. There is some argument that things with caffeine in them (coffee and diet soda) don't work quite as well for hydration because of the diuretic effects of caffeine, but for most of us that is just quibbling.
While I avoid all sweeteners like the plague and always have regardless of my weight. For example, I might drink one soda a year. If this gets you drinking enough water to help be healthier and support your weight loss then I for one am all for it. There is no one true path!
I agree with your point that liquid is liquid and adding flavouring to it doesn't make it suddenly not count.
Though personally I loathe crystal light.
But I also don't much care for plain water. However, I drink tea tea tea and sometimes coffee, and lots of it. Yeap, i'm hydrated. If i tried to drink water *on top* of all my tea? I'd never leave the bathroom ha haha.
Hydration is key, whether the "water" comes from tea, coffee, crystal light, soup, watermelon, etc. There's nothing magical about plain water - other than the fact that it hydrates *without also providing calories and/or any other undesirable substances*
i want to weigh in on this highly debated topic, not because anyone cares about my opinion, although you should, : ) and not because anyone asked, but because I'm opinionated and like to post while I should be working. So, like thousands of others, I too have a hard time getting enough water. I can drink plain water, but not enough to make a dent and when I pee my urine is a tad on the dark side. I also drink a lot of regular and diet sodas. However, here in the last few days I've ditched the regular soda and only drink 2-3 diet sodas a day. In place of all the soda i fill up my 34oz bubba keg and mix in one packet of Crystal Lite 2-3 times a day. Now when I go to the potty it quite literally looks like I've just made watered down lemonade. So, I think it's perfectly fine to add Crystal Lite and count it as water. If it didn't count then my pee would still be looking like a cast member from the Jersey Shore. Adding powder to water doesn't make it not water. I'll take a little aspartame over cocaine any day, at least with aspartame I can keep my job. Nothing is safe people, so add Crystal Lite and drink it up!!
