My brother was over 400 lbs, and slowly worked his way down to around 350 over the last few years. Last year, he found out he had hypothyroid issues. He had issues with the medication, and quit it, but finally buckled down and lost 70 lbs in the last 5 months.
I thought that it would make it harder for him to lose, but they also told him different foods to eat, so maybe that helped enough. He was borderline I guess, and they said he might have problems for a year before putting him on the Synthroid. Now they test him, and he is in a good range.
I have hypothyroidism, too. We can do this! And we know that we are really achieving something and learning discipline and good habits, because we have to work that much harder. Congratulations on your success so far!
Way to go! Looks like we started around the same time. I lost 8 lbs but in total I lost over 150 lbs. Its a great feeling....keep it up!

Hi everyone, I joined SparkPeople just to be able to interact with other planners in an easier way then the alternative. As my topic suggests I'm on day 17 today and I've lost 14.2 pounds. I'm 40 and have hypothyroidism. I've been trying to lose weight since I became hypothyroid, my weight loss would always stall at 138 but not on the plan. I've been below 138 for 3 days now and I'm sitting today at 135.4. I didn't follow the menu's on the website because by the time I knew about them, I already had my groceries and decided to stay where I was. I've been reactive to everything I've tested but almonds, chickpeas and the protein twice in one day test. It's taken me longer to get where I am because of this because whenever you do not lose at least .4 pounds that means your reactive and you have to stay on friendly days until you lose the weight you lost. Well that's me, I'm happy to have found this place. I have a lot more testing to do.
