For me I only lose if my carbs come from vegis. My appetite is unbelievable if I eat bread, crackers, and the like. I happen to love wheat. I just can't lose if I eat that stuff.

I'm with Unident. Trust the ranges the site gives you.

Thank you all for the information. I just wanted to see if others would share what they are doing or get their input.

You will have to manually adjust your carb ranges in your tracker. I take in 1200-1400 calories and 30-75g of net carbs per day, mostly from vegetables. Total carb intake is around 10-18%. Keep in mind that I'm a little older and not very active. As Russell said, I found the range that worked for ME through trial and error.

Oh, and friendly warning: every time you change your weight on SP, it will bounce your carb intake levels back up to the original settings. This is automatically done by the software and it does NOT mean that you're supposed to start eating that amount of carbs every day. If the lower range was working for you, stay with it. You know your body and its needs best.

I would stay at the calorie range, and adjust carbs if you wish to. I eat about 1700 calories a day, and eat around 20-30 net carbs. This works for ME.

You shouldn't lower calories to eat less carbs. Spark is usually very good at calorie ranges. If you wish to lower carbs a bit, either start dropping 10 g a week till weight loss is optimal. (maybe 125 g a day would be low enough), or do some research, consult a doctor etc. , and come up with a plan that you can stick to, and is healthy for YOU.

South Beach, Dukan, Atkins. Everyone has a different idea on how to do low carb, or even what it is. Don't just start cutting carbs, or calories.

What's the ideal caloric intake and carbs. for me?

This:

Calories: 1430 - 1780
Carbs: 189 - 273

Why do you feel the information the site has provided you is not trustworthy? Sparkpeople's recommendations are based on well proven nutritional science and studies, and generally work out well.

There is a movement towards low-carb. This is not supported as generally healthy by sparkpeople officially. If you want to move that way yourself, you will need to work out your needs and manually set your goals specifically.

I am on a 1430 - 1780 calorie diet. My daily goal for carbs is 189 - 273. Is that a lot? If I lower my caloric intake to 1300 a day, will the carbs automatically change too? I just think I'm getting too much. I weight 265 lbs. What's the ideal caloric intake and carbs. for me?

Thanks, Linda
