I have to disagree with others on this thread. Drink to thirst, not an arbitrary number. As mentioned, there are liquids in foods, and you might be getting enough through the combination.

Yes. it is 64 ozs. MINIMUM.. When you exercise, you should drink another 8 ozs, every 15-20 minutes of exercise. So I drink 10-12 glasses of pure water. Any other fluids you get will be from foods you eat. Of course, tea, and coffee count too, but caffeine has a diuretic effect, so you would need to drink more. Don't look at hydration as a chore. Just drink a little every 15 minutes or so, and if you get thirsty, drink more. As you get rid of other drinks, and drink only water, you will find that you crave water. I have to have mine cold, so I freeze them, and drink them as they melt. This tends to have me drinking water at a steady pace, which is what you want.

Eventually you will find that you drink 10-12 glasses of water normally. We don't do this now because of all the bad things we drink instead, like pop, juice, diet pop, shakes, smoothies, coffee, and tea ( with sugar ). So water, with no sugar tastes bad. Switch to just water, and in 3-4 weeks, you will drink it without even thinking about it. Water is our natural source of hydration. The rest are just substitutes.

Proper hydration is critical to health and anyone trying to lose weight. Water transports nutrients and oxygen to our bodies. It protest us against heat exhaustion and reduces sodium buildup in the body. Sure it helps the body get rid of waste and toxins, but it also insures proper blood volume.

Water regulates blood sugar because if your body gets low on water, everything becomes concentrated. Water also regulates the heart.

The reason to drink a glass of water before bedtime and in the A.M. is to stay hydrated as during sleep some hydration is lost.

It also helps curb appetite...... helps convert food into energy and assists in metabolizing stored fat.

Fruits and veggies contain rich sources of water and they also help us stay hydrated...make sure to include those in you daily meals....

It is best to get guidance from your doctor for your proper hydration amount.

I've heard time and time again that we need to drink 8 glasses of water/day. How much is that in total ounces? 64? I have seen statements out there that you should drink a glass first thing in the morning and then one before you go to bed. What is the reasoning behind these statements?
