This morning, I have much to be grateful for, including:

-A wonderful night of sleep and remembering that I was having funny/crazy dreams, but have zero recollection after waking
-A nice feeling of satisfaction and happiness today for all that I did yesterday
-Meeting an incredible 7-year-old deaf (cats who are all white with blue eyes are often deaf) rescue kitty yesterday; he was in a shopping cart at the mall shopping with his person, just as calm and gentle as could be and soaking up love from everybody (he had just had his picture taken with Santa - it was just adorable!!!!)
-Finding out that the women's shelter I volunteered for yesterday has moved to a much larger and nicer location and that they now have an area (away from people living quarters) to accommodate about a dozen pets so women and children escaping violence don't have to leave their pets behind
-The volunteer coordinator kept looking at me kind of strangely and finally said, "I just feel like I recognize you from somewhere." Turns out, she's been with Rose Brooks for more than 20 years, so when I told her of the hotline and other duties I used to do for them, she remembered me from 15 years ago!!
-Being able to run down the mall to Target to get both wet and dry kitty food included in the donation bins (oftentimes, kitties are overlooked)
-Having a cup of tea at my favorite coffee shop with a friend to catch up for a bit after we both finished our volunteer duties

Make it an excellent day everybody!!!!

Joyous Saturday to all.
I'm especially grateful for
--a lovely evening at a movie with a friend. Walked there (it was a 6:00 show) so I had exercise, too
--Clean, lazy dogs
--a strange day ahead.
--28 days till I return to teaching--that's exciting in two directions; I'm grateful for both

This morning, as I start my day, I choose to focus first on all that I have to be grateful for, including:

-Following Maha this morning in gratitude practice (and liking her use of the word "yet")!!!
-Sweet kitties and our treat rituals
-A solid night of rest
-Excitement about helping at the women's shelter holiday store today, with a nice bag of gifts gathered to go with me, including a few gifts from generous friends and co-worker
-Meeting a friend for a special brunch tomorrow
-Words with Friends
-Staying "reasonable" on all counts (time, money, eating) during the holiday season

Make it an excellent day!

One pound of learning requires ten pounds of common sense to apply it.
-- Persian Proverb

Good morning,

Being here is like walking into a room full of sunshine! And I'm deeply grateful to share my thankfulness with you~~

~ hahaha, happy for the at-times seemingly fleeting *brain power,* but feeling the profundity of the proverb as I push along with my last paper, due Tuesday, along with my last exam

~ a surprise birthday bash tonight, which should be lots of fun (but that I won't take *too* much time for, because of the above priorities)

~ so happy at the prospect of Gina and Stephanie meeting, a feat I wasn't successful in pulling off between all of us (yet)

~ a wonderful, upbeat email from my best friend *down south* -- I had given her Andrew Weil's book, Spontaneous Healing (in Spanish) and in talking about it in her halting English to an American woman, found that this woman is a naturopath and has set up a practice in Ecuador (her daughter, my god daughter, is delicate in terms of her physical health, and has periodic seizures); she is very *alternative* in her orientation toward health, and is thrilled at this discovery

~ a dear SparkFriend (one I haven't met yet!) has found a super-duper lap top that his computer guys refurbished for a very reasonable price(!) and his wife put it in the mail to me yesterday (it will be my most special birthday gift for my god daughter's 13rh on Dec 30)

Blessed be,
xox

This morning, I have so much to be grateful for, but I'll focus on these few for now:

-Major excitement over a real live Gina meeting!! It's always been special when I meet Spark friends in person!
-It's Friday, after a rather hectic work week, so I will soon have a weekend to relax a bit
-Our departmental recognition ceremony is this afternoon
-The generosity of so many people in helping me spread the word and giving me gifts to deliver to the Rose Brooks Holiday Store tomorrow for the kids
-Another excellent week for me and exercise, this week completing a full month of twice-weekly workouts with my co-worker/accountability buddy
-Reassurance from my eye doctor's office that floaters are very common, but they wanted me to come in early next week to just take a look and make sure everything is OK (I had a full eye exam just a few months ago)

Make it an excellent day!!

-heifer.org, with an amazingly incredible "pay it forward" concept, as well as providing recipient families with much-needed education
-www.cfcausa.org, the organization through which we found our Roberto in Chile in memory of my brother-in-law (can't believe he's now 10 years old, same as my oldest nephew)

This early Tuesday morning I am so grateful. Today the blessings in my life include:

~ Peaches from the summer in my oats this morning. Summer in a bowl!
~ Students' poster presentations went well yesterday. Many of my students (graduate students) expressed disappointment that the class was over as they had enjoyed the community we built and the challenging yet intellectually stimulating discussions! It doesn't get much better than that to the ears of a teacher!
~ The flexibility to switch my classes around for Spring to help out a colleague (who needs to spend time with his father who is dying). I'll give him my online graduate class and teach his undergrad class as will another faculty member - so he can stay in Tennessee as long as needed and teach online.
~ Working in a department that so values the lives and hearts of those who work here.
~ The joy of sharing the love of music with others (thanks Steph and Maha!).

Blessings and joy to all!

GinaBug emoticon

Addendum: Just as I hit the submit button, my cell phone rang. It was my nephew from Asheville, NC informing me "in person" (instead of having me find out on Facebook) that he proposed to his partner yesterday. The two of them have been in a loving committed relationship for six years and now have decided to "legally" tie the knot! R and I spent time with them this summer and we love them dearly! Such joy in the Universe and in my heart today!

-My favorite yoga class last night, after meeting my old yoga instructors for tea first, and the HUGE benefits of the class that I'm feeling today
-A solid night of sleep
-Finding somebody to help me with yardwork (to give my tendonitis a break) and it turning into something more; this man is partly disabled on a limited income, can only work 4 hours at a time, and told me the work for me is a blessing because it will give him money to buy his wife a Christmas gift; what a gift to me that he was willing to share that!!
-Doing cooking yesterday that will keep us with healthy meals for several days!!
-Getting lots crossed off of my "to do" list yesterday!

Make it an excellent day!!!

This morning, I am grateful for:

-The beautiful sunshine streaming through my window this morning
-These awesome temps, with more plans of working in the yard today, including getting the firewood bin and firewood moved up to the deck in preparation of winter because I know it really is coming
-A wonderful evening last night with friends, who not only went and borrowed their mother's wheelchair, but came and got us and drove all of us to the luminary walk, where B was also able to enjoy this very beautiful event under a starry sky with more live Native American flute music, babbling brooks and waterfalls, carolers, warm apple cider, all along gorgeous paved trails lit with hundreds of luminaries
-Getting good exercise yesterday: recumbent bike, raking/bagging in the yard, pushing the wheelchair up and down the pathways of the luminary walk that weren't all flat
-My favorite yoga class coming up tonight
-Tea with my old yoga instructor before we go to my favorite class

Happy Saturday everyone! Much gratefulness in my heart this morning. Here are a few reasons:

~ Lovely chat with Stephanie this morning reminding me how important connection is!
~ Beautiful and haunting early morning fog blanketing the ground and surrounding the trees this morning.
~ Friends coming over for a lovely dinner of eggplant lasagna (R's specialty) this evening.
~ Trip to the gym with R keeping me feeling energetic!
~ Gorgeous sunrise yesterday on one side of the landscape and sinking beautiful moon when I turned around. Gifts of the Universe all around!
~ Warm, purring kitties joining me in bed this morning to help me greet the day.
~ Poems and inspiring words of Rebcca and Maha on this thread today!
~ Maha's reminder that I first met her and Rebcca on the WW Vegetarian thread many years ago! How time flies!
~ The enchanting voice and music of Mamak Khadem...

Blessings and joy to all!

On this first morning of December, I have much to be grateful for, including:

-Another solid night of rest; two in a row, much-needed and truly appreciated
-A wonderful phone conversation with Gina this morning, catching up on our busy lives!
-My Siamese being very lovey-dovey this morning
-Warmers temps, very unusual this time of year, but I hope to take full advantage of some outside exercise
-Good friends
-Morning quiet time on the weekends when I can ease into my day!

Make it an excellent day!

Stephanie

Sunsets, like childhood, are viewed with wonder not just because they are beautiful but because they are fleeting.

Good morning,

Happy December back GBoomer old pal, and everyone else in this marvelous community! Rebecca, do I get anything for being third?

Ahhhh...remembering Rebecca's suggestion, more than once, back in 2005, when we were both posting in the Vegetarians Get Together message board of WW, that SparkPeople is a place I would appreciate and that she had started a gratitude thread (we posted gratitudes on the WW board too).

So happy to be here sharing this space now for over six years in gratitude~~

~ heading as soon as I finish this to a Tamalada (party to make tamales), part of the Food and Culture class I'm taking -- fun!

~ healthy and delicious breakfast to start the day

~ another moment, day, month to get it right!

~ weighing in, I note that I didn't drop the 10 lobs. I hoped to...but I maintained (at least)
and not judging myself

~ a wonderful Facebook chat with Adelaida, my dear friend in Ecuador, yesterday

Blessed be,
xox

The common meaning of gratitude is to be thankful for benefits received. While this is important, I feel that the energy of gratitude is one of the most powerful attracting forces in the universe. A heart filled with Thanksgiving, even when appearances tell us that we are mired in scarcity, conflict, and affliction, moves us to a higher frequency in consciousness -- and we soon witness reality shining through the illusion.
- John Randolph Price

The idea here is to write at least five things you are grateful or appreciative each day, thus cultivating an attitude of gratitude I will be here with my 5 when it is December for me. I appreciate everyone who joins me in this tradition.

Let a man strive to purify his thoughts. What a man thinketh, that is he; this is the eternal mystery. Dwelling within himself with thoughts serene, he will obtain imperishable happiness.
- Upanishads
