According to the artcile, MEN age 45+ are considered to be in excellent condition if they can do 40 or more crunches.

WOMEN age 45+ are considered to be in excellent condition if they can do 30 or more crunches.

I suspect this test was posted several years ago and has yet to be updated. This is a very basic "test" to see if a person has decent abdominal strength. The problem ? crunches or sit ups really aren't the best test of core strength. We really have learned a lot since this article was written.

These days, more people test core strength with plank. How long you can hold plank is a good indication of core strength and endurance.

Looks like "over 45" is all lumped in together, whether you are 50 or 70 or 90. Whoever developed this test might not have had a lot of older people to use for measuring and comparing.

I find crunches a half step up from pointless anyway. If I'm going to do dedicated ab work, it tends to be be of the plank variety.

Should a woman over 70 be doing the same amount of crunches as someone over 45???

Or do they figure a woman over 70 doesn't do crunches smile.
