My niece has Crohn's and she just started no gluten, no dairy, but it can and does change. As someone already said it's not a diet driven disease. Stress makes it much worse for her. She just got married a couple weeks ago and we were afraid she'd end up in the ER on her wedding day from the stress.
She's tried various things to include and/or not and there is no set pattern for her. She had to have surgery first part of this year and she had 6in of her small intestines removed but they said the rest looks good. Until she was diagnosed, I had no idea how bad it can be....
My SO has dealt with both Crohn's and Ulcerative Colitis most of his life and basically, when it comes to finding foods he could tolerate and foods he couldn't, it was a process of elimination. There's no set rule. But it was hard for him to eat anything some days because certain foods he tolerated one week, he couldn't tolerate the next. It depended on flare ups, whether or not his gut was bothering him, etc. He had his good days and had his bad days.
He no longer has these issues, as his entire large intestine and colon was removed and now wears a permanent bag (ileostomy).
It's such a personal thing - everyone I know with Crohn's has different triggers and "allowables." It just takes time to figure them all out. Plus - for me personally - throughout the years my triggers tend to change (annoyingly). I used to not be able to tolerate tomato sauce in any quantity but in the last few years it seems to be ok. Same thing with coffee. On the flip side, and even more annoying, sometimes something I've had no problem with all these years suddenly becomes..well...an enemy. Best of luck ;)

I have just been diagnosed with Crohn's and my doctor said that it is not a diet driven disease meaning that there is no 'Crohn's Diet' . As was posted below certain foods will cause a flare up and once you learn what those foods are, stay away from them or suffer the consequences.

Your friend definitely needs to talk to their doctor and perhaps get a referral to a dietician who has experience with Crohn's patients.
However with Crohn's disease, sensitivities can be very specific to the individual. My SO has Crohn's and there's certain things that really bother him that don't bother someone else with Crohn's, and vice versa. There's been studies that have shown going gluten free helps some Crohn's folks, but it didn't make any difference with him. I think most folks just have to try things and see what happens.
Honestly, it would be best for your friend to talk to her doctor to find out what would be best for her. Her doctor can then either give her some suggestions and/or refer her to a dietitian who can give her more specific help, especially if she has any other health conditions.
I have a good friend that has Crohn's disease and she's not sure of all the foods that she is able to eat - she would like to lose weight but she doesn't know what foods to start with. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thank you so much!
