I have actually done this in a skillet it is still yummmy and i also have wraped a breast and salsa in tinfoil and baked it in the oven both were great!

MORE_TO_LOVE,

I think this is the most often repeated crock recipe. Even more than bbq sauce.

I bet it'd also be great cooked slowly in a skillet.

easiest crock pot recipe ever and it is so yummy
chicken in crock pot with a jar of salsa on top
3 breasts one jar of mild salsa cook for about 3 hours best ever!!!!!

South Carolina Pulled Pork

INGREDIENTS:
4 lb pork roast
2 onions, sliced, divided
1 onion, chopped
5 or 6 whole cloves
2 cups water
16 oz bottle of your favorite BBQ sauce
salt and pepper
PREPARATION:
Place one sliced onion at the bottom of Crock Pot.
Stud pork roast with cloves and season with salt and pepper.
Place roast in slow cooker on top of the sliced onion. Cover with the second sliced onion and add enough water to fill Crock Pot two thirds of the way.
Cover and cook on low 8 to 12 hours.
Remove roast.

Italian Beef

5 6 lb beef roast (sirloin tip or rump)
1 Tbsp Rosemary 1 Tbsp Oregano
1 Tbsp Basil 8 cloves of garlic, crushed
Tbsp crushed red pepper flakes
1 Tbsp cinnamon 1 Tbsp Nutmeg
1 Tbsp salt lb butter
1 Tbsp Fennel seed c. parsley, chopped 2 Qt. beef broth (low sodium, fat free)

In roasting pan, combine roast and all ingredients. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hours. Chill at least 5 hours (better overnight). Strain broth and discard the solids. Slice meat thinly and return to broth. Warm gently and serve on crusty rolls. Sometimes I add some freshly grated Parmesan cheese.

This recipe is perfect for the crockpot. I put it on before I go to bed (8-10 hour setting), chill it all day the next and slice it when I get home. You can shred this roast as easily as slice it. It all tastes the same

I had some beef short ribs in the freezer for about a century. Tried a few once, but they were disgustingly fatty. Still I couldn't throw the rest out.
Put them all in the crock last night with some leftover meat drippings, probably beef. Picked a tiny bit of meat off this morning, then popped the pot into the frig. I'll skim off fat, add 1/2 cup barley, cook it all day. Maybe around 3 this afternoon I'll add some veggies: cabbage (the quintessential soup saver!), carrots, peas, corn, beans. Don't have celery. Maybe slice up the leftover lasagna noodles at the end.
There's dinner, with some whole wheat bread. Off work today. Watching the snow fall.

Pot roast (or any cheap cut of beef), potatoes, carrots, onions, dry onion soup mix, cream of mushroom soup, can of stewed tomatoes, salt and bay leaf.

Throw all in crock pot and let it cook all day. Yummy and smells heavenly when you get home!

Hey Hoover....add black beans and green beans to your recipe. It makes it go further and gives even more fiber and nutrition.

Barney: Foil Packets are done on high but each crockpot is different so you might need to adjust.

My favorite crockpot recipe is ground turkey, with onions, taco seasoning, powdered ranch seasoning, corn, pinto beans, and some chicken broth. It is so good.

We like to make dinner pockets:
take foil and put 4 oz of salmon, chicken or pork with herbs and your choice of sliced veggies with a drizzle of olive oil. Fold up and pop them all in the crockpot. The food steams in the foil packet and the flavors all meld together. Very Easy. *You can do this for a dinner party and your food cooks while you clean the house for your guests. Just add rice, pasta or salad and you have a meal.

Takes longer for the pork and shorter time for the salmon, so adjust, but typically I cook the pork on low for 4-6 hours, chicken for about 3 and salmon for about 2.

If you are very low on time....you can also do this in the microwave using a freezer bag or cooking bag. (you must use a bag to make the steam work for you and keep the flavors together)

Did you all see the recipe of the day today? Personally, I'd leave out the broth. Chicken and veggies make their own juices nicely.

Slow Cooked Chicken Breast with Peppers
Submitted by JMG052

Make this dish sweet or spicy, either way will be a hit!

1 chicken breast, no skin
1 t pepper, black
1 c sweet peppers or hot peppers
1 small onion, chopped
1 c whole mushrooms, or sliced
1 c chicken broth, fat free

Place all ingredients in a slow cooker. Cook until done, cooking time will be different for each slow cooker; takes 4 to 6 hours.

Number of Servings: 1

okay I did the full chicken in the crockpot. I lined the bottom with reynolds wrap, poured a cup of tomato basil dressing on it and it was delicious. it fell apart, which made it that much easier to divide up into 8 servings right then. even my 8 year old loves it. i just pop a container in the microwave add some veggies and dinner is ready in about 3 minutes! woo hoo!!!! and everyone look up the cauliflower recipe- mock potato salad, I ABSOLUTELY love that one! (not a crock pot recipe though)

Thanksgiving anytime

I use one turkey breast from the freezer section instead of the whole bird
1-2 cups of chicken stock/broth
Herbs of your choice (I use lemon pepper and thyme

Put the broth and the turkey breast into the slow cooker. Put the herbs directly on the breast. Cook on low for about 7 hours. Check it for doneness.

Hey THANKS for these post. I have been looking for some good Crock pot recipes that did not use alot of ingredients.

I did one that I made up myself.
Filled the pot with Chicken Wings
Added a can of green chilis
1 cup of salsa
1 pkt. of dry Ranch Dressing
Cooked this on low for 8 hours
YUM!

I forgot all about the chicken with italian dressing! It is fabulous! You should try it if you haven't already! Of course, use the low cal. Taste just the same! Another way is to bake it for 1 hr. Either way, sprinkle a little parm. cheese on top to melt at the end of baking or cooking. Yum!

And I am definatley going to try out the Salsa & Chicken. Sounds really good!

Crock Pot Salsa Chicken

3-6 frozen chicken breasts
1 large jar salsa

Place chicken in crockpot and pour salsa over chicken. Serve over rice

All of you have such great ideas! I'm trying to write some of them down. If you haven't already, please post them on the Recipe page so they can be saved.

One of my fav's is a very easy Potato Soup. Get canned diced potatoes, drain and put in crock pot. I use 1 can for each person I feed. Pour low fat, low sodium Chicken Broth over to cover and cook on High for 2 hr. With a potato smasher, smash the potatoes then stir in 1/4 Cup per person of low fat mozzarella cheese and fat free Half & Half to desired thickness. Heat another 1/2 hr or untill cheese is melted. Add pepper and/or garlic to taste.

What a delicious dinner we had last night. I scrubbed about 6 medium potatoes (Use how many fit on the bottom of your crock). Place them on the bottom. Set a lean-as-can-be roast on top. Cook on Low 8-10 hrs. NO LIQUID.

I sliced 3 small zucchini thick and cooked them on low on the stovetop when I got home, in a thick-bottomed pot with NO LIQUID. By the time I got the table set, zukes were done. They were the best I ever had.

I trimmed fat off the roast, but there was none in the drippings! Sliced it fairly thin. I used to like pot roast a lot, but now I really love it!

Last summer Kitt convinced me that my crockpot wasn't working as it should any more. Probably the Low setting simply doesn't work, so it's always on High. Things do cook faster than I think they should.

Yesterday I found a super new crockpot at the St Paul Home and Patio show. I can't wait until it arrives - and I might fit a turkey breast into it. Wouldn't that be grand!

One of my faves is chilli...

I brown off the ground turkey and drain the fat, then throw it in the crock (1-2 lbs) with a packet of chilli seasoning, 16 oz salsa, about 16-20 oz water, and whatever other "extra" ingredients desired: beans, corn, etc. Leave on low to simmer all day or just 15 min and it'll be pretty tasty :-)

Others may have different suggestions ... and a lot depends on your individual crockpot and how much you are cooking in it ... but I will provide my response, based only on my personal experience:

I usually cook chicken on LOW (not the 'keep warm' setting, but the actual 'Low Cook' setting) for about 6-8 hours. I start with enough chicken to feed a family of 4 ... I usually have 3-4 bone-in breasts, but sometimes a whole cut up chicken or various 'parts'. I like to start with frozen chicken so I don't have to worry about it overcooking.

In my opinion, overcooking is what causes some crock pot chicken to come out with a 'grainy' dry texture. Also, bone-in chicken takes a bit longer to cook and seems to hold up better in the crockpot. If I only have boneless breasts (or a recipe calls for boneless chicken), I definitely try to start with them frozen, or to be able to cook for a shorter length of time. My hubby is sometimes home during the day and can turn the crockpot down to 'keep warm' for me.

I usually marinate my chicken in Italian dressing to BBQ-I am anxious to try this way-if cooked on high, how long does that take-I would like to try tomorrow morning and I work days so I don't want to cook on high and its overcooked-does it make a difference if chicken is frozen or thawed

Just curious ... why? "You want to make sure you have enough dressing to completely cover the chicken."

I like cooking chicken in the crockpot (usually a whole chicken, or bone-in pieces) and just pouring about 1 cup of fat free Italian dressing over it. I make sure all the chicken is 'coated' but it doesn't have to be swimming. It turns out much more like roasted or Rotisserie style chicken than boiled chicken. I like the texture much better and it doesn't waste a ton of dressing.

This is awesome! Get 4 chicken breast (boneless skinless) Use 2-3 bottles lite italian dressing. Put all of it in the crock pot. Cook on high until chicken is done. Discard the dressing completely after cooking. You want to make sure you have enough dressing to completely cover the chicken. You will love this!!!

Chicken Stroganoff - Crockpot Method

Ingredients

1 pound frozen boneless skinless chicken breasts
1 can fat free cream of mushroom soup
16 oz. carton fat free sour cream
1 envelope dry onion soup mix

Put frozen chicken in bottom of crockpot Mix soup, sour cream and onion soup mix and pour over chicken. Cook on low for 7 hours. Serve over noodles or rice.

Try this:

Combine your favorite meat loaf recipe using extreme lean ground meat. (When you fry this stuff you NEED to add oil to the pan!) Or try the recipe of the day idea: 1# meat, 1/3cup seasoned bread crumbs, 1/4cup salsa. I would boost the nutritional value with an egg or 2. Avoid ketchup or bbq sauce!

Spray or oil the bottom of the crock or some foil. Gently place meat loaf in the bottom. Cook on Low about 6-8 hours, High 4-6 hours.

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

We had this at my house the other night. I got the recipe off of another website, but have modified it to make it a little bit lower in fat.

Made-over Crock Pot Cream Cheese Chicken

6 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
1 package dry Italian salad dressing mix
4 tablespoons melted low-fat butter substitute (divided)
1 small onion, chopped
1 garlic clove, chopped
1 (10.5 ounce) can Healthy Request Cream of Chicken soup
8 ounces fat-free cream cheese
1/2 cup chicken broth


1. ) Place chicken pieces in crock pot and sprinkle dry Italian dressing mix over chicken. Drizzle with 2 tablespoons melted butter-substitute. Cook on low for about 4-6 hours.

2. ) Melt 2 tablespoons of butter-substitute in a sauce pan and saute onion and garlic. Add Cream of Chicken Soup, cream cheese, and chicken broth. Stir until smooth. Add this mixture to the crock pot and cook on low for an additional hour.

Serve chicken and sauce over noodles or rice.

The recipe of the day, chicken vegetable soup with rice, is for a slow cooker. There is a long list of ingredients, but it's unique because you add uncooked rice.

We've gone around about how to use uncooked rice and pasta in the crock pot. I think this recipe is good for studying the amount of liquid compared to rice, and because there's no added salt. There is plenty of salt in the ingredients, tho.

I'd like to try this recipe. If anyone tries it, please let me know what you think.

Waaaaaaaaay back in Girl Scouts we used to layer our dinner in a coffee can, seal it, and bury it in the coals. We put the longest cooking stuff on the bottom (carrots, potatoes), then meat, then veggies on top.

You can do the same in the crock. Try to remove all the fat from meat first. A little will still cook out.

Cram a whole chicken into the crock and cook it on low for the better part of the day.

Add flavorings if you want, but it's like a roasted bird if you do it dry. Foil might help clean-up, or just soak the bugger overnight.

Toss in some potatoes under the bird to help it cook a little slower, and reduce your side dish work.

This also work with beef, pork, bison and elk roasts. Just so it fits into the pot with the lid on.

Or Rotisserie-style chicken ... just put in a whole chicken or whatever pieces you prefer, pour about 1 cup of lite or Fat Free italian salad dressing over the chicken (it does not have to be covered in liquid) and cook.

Pot Roast - put whatever cut of beef roast is on sale in the crock pot. Pour *ONE* of the following over it:
about 1 cup of lite or Fat Free italian salad dressing
~or~ 1 can of French Onion Soup
~or~ 1/2 cup of your favorite steak sauce mixed with 1/2 cup water
~or~ 1 cup salsa thinned with a little water.

Allow to cook all day on low. By *NOT* covering the meat in liquid, you end up with more of a braised/roasted texture rather than 'boiled meat'.

Hi

Chicken and Chicken soup. Put in a chicken, some water, some frozen veggies, onions, black pepper. You will have great chicken and chicken soup when it is done.

Tomato/veggie soup. A large can of tomato juice, a can of tomato paste, some frozen veggies, some spices.

Tomato/rice soup. A large can of tomato juice, a can of tomato paste, some brown rice, some spices.

Meat or fish or poultry, a can of sauce, veggies (fresh or frozen).
