Leg cramps can be cause by dehydration...water provides a vehicle for nutrients called electrolytes. Electrolytes include minerals such as sodium, potassium and calcium. Water helps disseminate these minerals throughout the body and into blood, tissue and organs. It is necessary for lubricating joints. Thirst, dry mouth, dizziness, headache, muscle weakness and cramps are common for mild or moderate dehydration...

Eat foods rich in vitamin D tofor treat leg cramps. Vitamin D assists in bone health and joint pain.

Vitamin C supports the immune system, is good for the joints and your heart...Take Vitamin C to heal already damaged tissues, eat berries to reduce inflammation. Other foods to reduce inflammation are Green Peppers, Cucumber, Sweet Potatoes, Celery, Zucchini

My husband would wake up in the night with calf cramps. His Dr told him to add more potassium and drink milk - so I would suggest adding bananas, yogurt, and milk to your food plan and see if you get any relief there.

Also - if it's happening while you are working out, are you stretching properly? Are you pushing too hard too fast? Are you giving yourself downtime between workouts? Ice/heat may also help.

Not sure if this is the right place for this question or not, but I need to find out what to do.Ill also post in fitness.

I keep getting calf and shin cramps when I work out. I used to get em so bad they would wake me up in the middle of the night and I had a hard time sleeping because my muscles would cramps so bad. Tonight I was on the bike and my calf started cramping. Then after I was stretching I stood up and my calf cramped so bad I almost fell over :(.

Any suggestions?
