Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I currently do different types of crunches, which is why it is uncomfortable. I will try doing some planks. I keep the rest of my workout routines the same, but just can't seem to be comfortable while working my abs. I'm also trying my first Zumba class tonight, hopefully that will work my core enough so I don't have to do those tonight as well.

I don't change my workouts during that time of the month. On the contrary, I especially do my exercises then because it distracts me from it and helps with related discomfort and stress.
Zumba tends to help me. Keeps the fatigue away and the basic hip movements of the routines tend to "sway away" cramps. The standing ab routines, however...not so great for me during that time. Makes the stomach rather "pinchy."

Whenever TOM comes around, I do my normal exercise routine. I've found the regular exercise has helped decrease any menstrual related symptoms. If you've recently started exercising, you may find that with time, your symptoms will decrease too.
What are you doing for core exercises now ? How long can you hold plank before your tummy starts hurting ? If you can only hold plank for 15 secs, that's how long you hold. Why not do plank for 3 or 4 times for 15 seconds ? That may not seem like a lot, but it's a start.
You might also do a bridge Don't confuse bridge with a bridge up. Bridge ups are difficult. However, you may find the bridge a good core pose. I do bridges as part of my exercise routine.
Don't let your period cramp your style. pardon the pun. The universe doesn't stop because a woman gets her cycle. As I mentioned earlier, you may find that regular exercise helps relieve any symptoms.

Honestly, I'd just skip the core that week of the month. A week off once a month isn't a big deal. I think working the core is overrated anyways. If you're lifting heavy and doing compound exercises, your core gets plenty of work to help stabilize.
How do you feel doing planks? They're isometric so they don't require any movement.

You could get a belly dancing DVD. Its specific to women and it just uses hip movements to work your abs. Or you could do Pilates, which is my favorite.

Ladies, what kind of core exercises do you do during your time of the month? I can't seem to find anything that doesn't make my tummy hurt. Any ideas?
