I like to share recipes with my friends. I am glad I can post them for myself though.

If a recipe that is not shared is listed in a shared cookbook, there should be a note in the cookbook that the recipe is private and can't be seen. Cookbooks also have the same copyright rules as recipe pages, so you shouldn't be sharing those in the cookbooks either.

If a cookbook is shared, does that mean the recipes in it are shared even if the individual recipes are listed as "not shared" in my recipe box?

(I shared my Indian cookbook so that people could see a list of the recipes, the nutritional information, and in which cookbooks they could find those recipes if they're interested.)

I have started keeping on my recipes on the computer. They are easier to find and modify as needed to suit my tastes. Most sites offer print recipe and I usually copy it to a word document. I generally have to make a note of ownership on my copy when saving. Not sure if enough people do this but it would be nice if Spark would add a small identification line under the recipe title and make it easier to get a clean copy by eliminating all the cutie things that sprinkle themselves amount the copied recipe.

You do need to enter info in the sections where it says it is required. When you save it to your recipe box only, you need to make sure NOT to check the box for "Submit My Recipe to SparkPeople's Shared Recipes Database," which is just above the "Save Recipe" button. It is automatically not checked, so as long as you don't check the box, it will only be listed in your recipe box.

I hope that helps!

Hi Denise
When I go to SparkRecipes I enter in the Weight Watchers recipe in the area that says free recipe calculator. I type in the ingredients and when I'm done it won't let me save it to my recipe box without typing in all the other stuff. Am I in the right place or do I type in the recipe somewhere else? All I want to do is save it and not share it because of the copy-write issue.

Denise, thanks.
The last thing I want to do is get someone or myself in trouble.

No...when you submit your recipe, one of the items listed that you are acknowledging is "Acknowledging that you did not copy the recipe from a book, website, or other copyrighted source."

I know that with food bloggers, they can post copywritten recipes as long as they write their own instruction text; that's often what is indicated when bloggers write "recipe adapted from ____". Would that be ok for spark as well?

You can enter them for yourself, but you cannot post them publicly. So when you enter them in the recipe calculator, make sure you do NOT check the box to share it. That will keep the recipe in your recipe box only.

Thanks for checking about this with us!

I have a few recipes from an old Weight Watchers cookbook that I would like to add to my food tracker and favorites. Because they are copy-written do I have to ask permission to post them on this website?
