My husband responds poorly to both coffee and tea. We are pretty sure it is the caffeine that does it.

He has more than 50 diverticula throughout his whole colon (very unusual), and caffeine seems to give him spasms in his colon (which equates to sharp stomach pains).

I think each case is unique, so it is worth it to see if tea is easier on your stomach than coffee.

There are coffee substitutes available such as Teechino and Dandy Blend.

I drink tea in the mornings instead of coffee. I adore my tea! Hopefully that will be a good solution for you

Thank-you for all the great ideas! It's true, the artificial sweetener does something awful to my delicate tummy~ so I chose not to use sugar-free products. I've tried the coffee without cream and it still hurts my tummy. I love tea. I'll definitely check into trying that first thing tomorrow. emoticon

It's likely not the caffeine that's giving problems, coffee is very acidic. Acidic foods/drinks for someone with IBS are not a great idea.

Also artificial sweeteners can aggravate IBS so if you're using a sugar free creamer or something like splenda, that could be the problem too.

Coffee was doing that to me for awhile, and I finally figured out that it was the creamer that was upsetting my stomach. If you take creamer, maybe try a different kind, or try it without.

I enjoy Chai is warm and comforting......

I love coffee. I love the taste of it and I love the energy it gives me, but it makes me sick. I get horrible stomach problems sometimes for the rest of the day. I have IBS. Does anyone know of any alternative that will give me the zip and something warm and comforting?
