I use Rice Bran Oil for all high temp. cooking (very high smoking point and a healthy fat) and Lite Olive Oil for in most cakes/muffins, and either for dressings.

I can not say with all certainty, what one thing has worked or has not worked. I can say though, that for cooking I use CO almost exclusively. I use Olive Oil sometimes when roasting veggies and for salads. Now and then ghee, but usually it is CO that I reach for. It does much better with higher temps.

All I can say is that all numbers are going down, but I do a lot of things but the bottom line is trying to eat healthy and something is working.

I will say though, that I have heard so many good things about CO. I try to work in 2 TBL a day. I can't say that I always do that, but it is a fat that I don't worry about adding.

I use coconut oil and olive oil. Don't really feel a difference from using coconut oil. Maybe cuz it's only been a few months. It's more convenient to cook with the olive oil. The coconut oil is usually solid and I hate scraping it off the measuring spoon lol

I'd rarely accept someone's word when presented. People change so much and consume such varying things, it'd be impossible to rely on someone's word here.

A good place to start is pubmed. I did a search for studies related to MCTs and did not turn up anything conclusive. In fact, the studies themselves state that use of MCTs is inconclusive. You could try your own search, you might find something a little more solid on the subject.

For the past two years i have only used coconut oil, Grapeseed oil (in moderation) and Olive Oil (cold pressed and never heated). I can't say if they helped me lose weight or get my numbers down, but i do know from the research that my doctors group put into it, these are the healthiest oils out there. I won't touch corn or veggie oil nor canola oil. I have never seen a canola plant. Canola actually stands for canada oil.

I use coconut oil in my raw cookies, my smoothies and sometimes in my salad dressings. I certainly didn't start using it on Dr. Oz's advice. My raw food chef swears by it and all the education she has had regarding nutrition-- I will follow her advice first.

As the general rule goes-- everything in moderation. I also use it as a moisturizer and will add it to my homemade shampoo and conditioner. It is great on rough heels. I am in the belief that if i won't eat it, i won't use it on my skin.

Oh, my question was if anyone who used it long term had any changes in health, whether it be weight loss/gain, increased or decreased HDL or LDL, or changes in triglycerides. Im just worried about using a cooking oil so high in saturated fat but the health benefits it claims to have are very tempting.

I don't know if I understand the question.

I would trust your instinct on whatever Dr. Oz claims. He's a quack.

However, there are some benefits to coconut oil with regard to fat burning because it is a medium chain triglyceride. For more info see:

I was wondering if anybody has any long tern experience cooking with coconut oil. Dr. Oz is all about the coconut oil now, but I tend to shy away from anything that he suggest. I'm currently using grapeseed oil because of its abundance in unsaturated fats and its high smoke point, which I heard is good for cooking at high temps.

I bought a jar of coconut oil, and the nutritional information shows that its high in saturated fats. I've hear about the many benefits of coconut oil as opposed to other oils and I'm just not sure.

Any advice?
