i changed it back. i couldn't keep up with the caloric allowance without reverting back to my old snack habits. i think i will deal with it if i end up going over 1975, but i want the 1.6 miles i walk, 2x a night; 4x a week, to count in the scheme and with a "Lightly active" register, it doesn't really help. this way, i can include the walking in my fitness tracking and not worry about going "Over budget," calorically.

i wish the stepper factored into the fitness equation more than just X-many steps a day. oh well. this might work better for me.

Helps immensely. I thought I was going to eat like a Sumo- (Knowing we share enough fit/nutrition traits already!) I'll make the adjustments according to my current level of training and grow from there.

Putting "lightly active" into your program setup will account for that movement at work. Then you'd only track your planned workouts in your fitness tracker, not the activity at work.

I appreciate your prompt response. i just need to ask you, if i may - if you might know or point me in a direction... do i add/track the minutes I walk per night to my "cardio Train" setup in my fitness goals or do i just track the stuff i do outside of work?

I tried adding amount that i walk a night and the caloric allowance blew UP! EEK! I dont even think I walk that fast or anything. Not sure how to work this system with that in mind.

Hi. I just changed my activity level due to My job. I went from sitting most of the day to walking the building for 50mins, 2x a night. I'm going to say it's about a mile thru, lot's of zig-zags, two separate upper floors. Would that constitute the "Lightly Active" category on the Goal Setting page? It's not walking about all day, though there are some posts that warrant that. It's walking at a moderate-to-fast-ish pace for two hours a night, four nights a week. I think I did it right, but I want to make sure. My caloric allowance shot up from 1694 on the high end to 2290 on the high.

Note, I'm getting more active, over all. I'm working out for various lengths of time during the day (minimum 10mins/day.) I just want some... reassurance. I'm never quite sure I'm doing some things right.

That makes sense. I think I'll try it out for a few weeks. The job doesn't start for a few more weeks, but I guess it could be interesting to see how it works. Thanks.

I think it's up to you, and might take some experimenting to figure out which one will work best for you. You could try eating at the lower end of the range suggested (assuming the two trackers are communicating), or you could use the calories burned goal method. If you use the goal method, then you'll need to adjust to account for your active job (since your baseline calories will likely be too low). I would probably try using the method where your calories change based on how much fitness you've tracked, and just see how that goes for a while.

Would that method be appropriate for me since I am still trying to lose weight? I read over the article about how to decide if it would be appropriate for you. In terms of tracking my fitness, I'd be tracking the walking, intervals, cycling, and strength training.

Even though I've read through the article, I'm a bit hesitant to have it set so the two are communicating with each other. Basically, would it be more appropriate for me to use the one where the two are communicating with each other?

I would definitely say that 5-10 miles of hiking a day as part of your job would classify you as "active". The only way to classify yourself this way is using the calorie goal method where the nutrition and fitness trackers communicate with each other.

I'm taking a temp job where I'll be hiking 5 to 10 miles a day. We'd be doing this for 21 days straight, then taking 7 days off (over the course of 3 months). The way the work schedule would be set up, I'm going to have to cut my cardio back to 30 minutes a day and spread it out over 7 days instead of 50 minutes to an hour for 5 days/week and do strength training twice a week instead of 3 days/week. The cardio I normally do includes the rowing machine, stationary bike, walking, walk/jog intervals, and riding my bike. On occasion, I'll use the treadmill too. While on this job, I'll be riding my bike, walking, and doing walk/jog intervals. My plan is to continue reducing my body fat % and maintaining the muscle that I have at this time.

Currently, I have it set at sedentary since I'm at a computer for most of the day. Since there is a lot of hiking with this job should I change the activity level to lightly active or active? I'm thinking active. Is there a way to change this without having to have the fitness tracker communicating with the nutrition tracker?
