I get a soreness in my right arch of my foot and sometimes some tinglyness, but I just keep rotating the way I place my feet on the machine and it seems to help. I usually do a routine of about 20 minutes on the elliptical, warm up for a few minutes, then sprint for a minute, go back to normal pace for a minute, go backwards for a minute, sprint, etc. This makes the time fly by on the machine, plus its interval training which is more effective.

I can only repeat what the others have already said - dont do anything you don't like.

Maybe you can switch up your old routine without switching machine? You didnt mention what you did before, but lets just assume you ran. You could increase the speed and run a shorter distance or vice versa. Or you could try interval training - first walking for say 1 minute, then a medium jog for 1.5 minutes and then a faster run for a minute and repeat. Or whatever ;-). Sometimes just little changes like that are enough to keep your body on edge.

If not - there is so much more you can try. Spinning, swimming, biking, hiking, rowing.... While many love the crosstrainer (myself included) it obviously isn't for everyone.

Good luck :-)

I would just skip the elliptical. I had the tingling feet issue, a trainer said that it was how you stand, and use the elliptical, and a combination of that and shoes. I just don't love the machine either. I recommend trying anything else!

I agree that if you don't like something, try something else. I also think though that a change in how you stand on the elliptical might be what's needed. Asking the experts should help. I personally love the elliptical but hate the treadmill. Good luck!

Hi Wendi

The first thing I'd say is that if you don't like a piece of equipment, don't use it. You're less likely to stick with a workout routine if you don't like it, so find something else you enjoy more. If you are going to continue with the elliptical, here's an Ask the Expert about your toes going numb that you might find helpful:

"No matter how slow you go, you are still lapping everybody on the couch."

Trying to change my workout up so started using the elliptical. I hate those things. After about 15 min my feet start tingling and go numb. Does anyone else have this problem? Loved my old routine but my body was getting too used to it.
