I understand and agree that there are no bad carbs per se. However, I think most people who struggle with obesity find that there are certain foods that are triggers for them. And for me the foods listed as "bad carbs" are huge triggers. Not sure if it the rapid blood sugar rise followed by the insulin followed by the decreased blood sugar leading to craving more carbs. But it is something and is very real for me. I find that as long as I pretty much stay way from the bad carbs I do ok. They have to be rare holiday, birthday, etc. treats for me.
Maybe so but milk and some other dairy products like yogurt actually contain more carbohydrate than protein.

Rule of thumb...Anything with a mother is a protein (and cheese).

Thank you to JUSTEATREALFOODS! People label an entire food group as "bad" instead of identifying that there are GREAT carbs and carbs-to-be-avoided.
Anybody leaving out fruits & veggies has really missed the boat, in my opinion!

I am for the most part staying in the ranges Sparkpeople provides, some days I go over and some days I am under, but most days I am withing the limits. This article was very helpful, I am getting most of the cards from good sources.
Great Carbs - Green leafy vegetables, broccoli, green beans, carrots, cauliflower, eggplant, peppers, avocados, parsnips, onions, garlic, squash, berries,
Good Carbs - Sweet potatoes, potatoes, dairy and other fruits. (Calories can add up fast so that's why they aren't great IMO.)
Okay Carbs - Whole grains (High in calories. Vegetables will always trump whole grains nutritionally.)
Bad Carbs - White breads, cakes, cookies, candy, sugars, chips

Carbohydrates have gotten a bad rap in recent years, and it really not that bad. Especially if your carbs are coming from healthy, complex sources! VEggies and fruits will almost always have carbs in them.
