I have to agree with al the posters here. at 5'6", 158 pounds could be consideered an ideal weight for many people. Has your doctor suggested you lose another 30 pounds? If so, then you might ask him why.
In the last several years, I have learned you should base what you SHOULD weight against several factors besides the scale.
1 - how do you look in your clothes? are you just trying to get rid of a little fat roll? then do some core exercises. 2 - are you already exercising 3-4 days a week, 30 minutes a day? maybe you just need to tone up. 3 - if you are not saying yes to any of the suggestions made here, try one of the "Offical" spark teams here and get more answers.
I have hypothyroidism and have struggled the last 5 years to lose the 60+ pounds I Have needed to lose. it goes on and off. Weight watchers worked for a while.
Currently I seem to be having good luck with nutrisystem which is a low glycemic index eating plan. You might want to research new eating plans with your doctor or a nutritionist. THere are many spark teams dealing with either of these eating plans you can join or just go visit and se what informatoin is available. Since I don't know much about you. It is difficult to give you a good plan of attack.

I would talk to your doctor about what would be a healthy weight range for you. He/she already knows that you're trying and may help you see what your should be. You shouldn't limit your weight to one number.

At 5ft 6" and 158 pounds, your BMI is 25.5. While a BMI of 25-27 is considered an overweight range, it doesn't necessarily mean you are overweight. If you've been exercising on a regular basis for a very long time, you probably carry more lean muscle than the average American female. If so, your body may be more compact and dense because of that lean muscle.
Women tend to be really hard on their bodies. We think we're fat when we're not. Have you ever had your body fat percentage done ? If not, I'm going to suggest that you do. Don't use a body fat scale or a hand held meter. If possible, have a personal trainer do a 9 point caliper test. that's more accurate than the 3 point test. Any good PT can do the test. Don't let them use the hand held meters. Those are notoriously inaccurate. Get them to use the calipers. They'll pinch areas of your body to take measurement. those numbers will be put into equations and that will generate your body fat percentage.
The reason you may not be able to lose is because you don't have a lot too lose. You really are at a reasonably healthy weight for your height. So, losing WILL be slow going. ask any member down to their last 5-10 pounds and they'll tell you it takes months, not weeks to lose. So, don't beat yourself up because you're not losing 1-2 pounds per week.
Like I said, we are our own worst critics. Flaws we see in ourselves, no one else sees. If you were to lose 30 pounds at your current height, that would put your BMI at 20.7. Depending on your age, that may be too low for your frame or body type ! Women are supposed to carry some fat to be healthy. If that percentage of fat goes too low, we're at risk for a number of different medical issues including loss of our menstrual period as well as osteoporosis.
What to do ? consider having your body fat percentage done and see what it is. If your BF is under 25%, that really IS a healthy body fat percentage. Could you go lower ? Yes. But here's the caveat, if you lose the weight, will you be able to keep it off ? That's your catch 22. It's one thing to lose weight. It's another to keep it off. Another mistake women make is that they select goal weights which are too difficult to maintain. The images we see of women in magazines are not the norm. Most women aren't that thin.
Women really do come in many different shapes and sizes. We need to learn to appreciate what our bodies can do and learn to stop beating on ourselves because we don't look a certain way.
Avoid "diets" like the plague. Diets never work. They never REALLY work.
Given that you are SO close to a healthy BMI, that 30lbs is going to be a real struggle. Instead, why not focus on building muscle? Or train for a marathon (even if you have no intention of ever running a real marathon)?
That 128 you're looking for is just a number. It's a number that somehow got stuck in your head. Ask yourself why you picked that number. Why not 129? Why not 115? What is it that made you desire 128?

I just worked out your BMI, and altho' I acknowledge that it isn't the be all and end all to an ideal weight (which we know there IS no ideal per se) then that puts you just slightly into the overweight range. The 30lb loss would put you into the mid range at just over 22. You may find it quite difficult - even virtually impossible to get there considering your challenges, so I would be more inclined to go with 'any loss' rather than trying hard out to lose a specific amount which will only cause you a load of angst.
I agree with the previous poster. Perhaps you could get a gym to do a 9 point skin fold calliper test to see if it is fat that you need to lose?
You also mention having tried so many diets since July (?2013??) - well the thing is, diets don't actually work. Healthy eating paying attention to portions and a healthy balance, PLUS getting in some exercise is what works. If you aren't using the Nutrition Tracker, then that is perhaps singly the most important thing that you can do - weighing ALL of your food and entering it into there. That will give you the power to make tweaks to your intake as and when needed, and ensure that you are doing the best that you can for your body!
Lastly, I would like to add that IF you eat very healthy, and watch portions, AND get in some exercise, then you are doing the best that you can for your body. You may not see the positives, but it WILL thank you for it!
Hypothyroidism can really set you back as far as the weight loss goes! I would give it a couple more months on the Synthroid (I assume this is your med) before ruling out the hypothyroidism effects completely. Also, do you record what you eat in the food tracker? If you don't, maybe start doing that to see if there are any areas of extra calories you are not seeing in your diet. One last thing I was thinking is what is your body composition like? Your BMI is on 25.5 (0.5 above normal and that is by no means a lot!). If your body is mostly muscle, than maybe a goal of 30 lbs loss is not necessary. Hope this helps :)

I am 5'6" and 158 lbs. and I cannot lose weight no matter what I do. I would like to lose 30 lbs., but any weight loss right now would be great. I have tried so many diets and have been on diets since July 2013. I went to the doctor and was diagnosed with hypothyroidism in December, but was given medication. My doctor said that as soon as my levels are normal, I will start to lose weight again since I eat very healthy and exercise 6 times a week. Well, according to my last blood test, my levels are normal, and I have been on my medication for about 3 months now, and no weight loss has occurred. I just did JJ Virgin's "The Virgin Diet" and lost four lbs the first week and then gained it back. I'm so frustrated right now because anything I do does not seem to work. Someone please help me!
