I wouldn't worry. You will probably gain for a while, then start to lose (some weeks there will be nothing either way). Keeping track of your weight is a good thing but also go by how you feel. You could be gaining muscle, yet losing inches. I weigh in every day but that's only because if I don't, I will start gaining like crazy (I will gain 2 pounds per week if I don't keep track); I don't really take measurements but my clothes are fitting better, so I go by that.
It will happen! Just don't beat yourself up over it :) I do agree with the others and if you do up your water intake (if you weren't drinking that much before), your body will retain that for a while (pardon me if that's already been mentioned) until it realizes that more will be coming.
I agree with Renata - it is a common response when you start/increase working out for your muscles to retain water. It takes 3 water molecules to bond to each glycogen molecule, and this helps deliver energy to your muscles more efficiently, and helps them cope better with the new demands you are making of them.
In the short term, this one-off increase in your lean mass can lead to little change (or even an increase) in the scale, even as you are burning fat. Over the long term, you can expect your longer term weight loss to outstrip this.
However, muscle and water are considerably denser than fat, and typically this will show up as inches lost, even if the scale is being unco-operative. The tape is a much better means of tracking your progress than the scale.

Yep. It's your muscles pulling in water so that they're able to store more fuel for themselves. It may or may not recur every time you experience a significant or sudden increase in your amount of exercise, but regardless it's just water and can be happily ignored as unimportant. :)

for me when I started to add exercise 2 1/2 years ago, I ended up gaining a little for 2 months!!!! Just keep working at it.
Two days ago I started an exercise regiment and immediately saw my weight go up by about 3 pounds. I did not change my diet and ate within my calorie range. Is this normal to gain a few pounds when beginning an exercise regiment?
