Russel, I think you are right there - there is definitely less temptation to give into a burger and fires when you don't feel like your stomach is going to eat itself!

BLANCHE, you are very correct. Often eating more does help w/ weight loss. I originally was eating 1200-1300 a day and lost a good amount of weight that way, but then hit a plateau. Once I upped to 1300-1500, I lost the last part of my weight. I've been attempting maintenance since the beginning of October, eating 1700-1800 a day and I'm still losing weight. Not quickly, but still losing... 4lbs since I started trying to maintain. I don't even exercise. I even gorged myself for basically 3 days for Thanksgiving with no tracking at all, and I lost a half pound.
I'm glad you are reassured because I thought it was crazy when my calories were readjusted to be between 1700 - 2200 while I was training a lot - and it was the best shape I was ever in in my life! It seems so counterintuitive but it worked for me since I was expending so many calories per week. I didn't see "weight loss" but I saw more definition, tone, skin was glowing, energy was high. I did also stick to REAL foods during this time, adding in some afterworkout snacks really helped.

Thanks all! That definitely reassures me. If any of you are interested or want to give me some feedback, my tracker is now public - bear in mind that I was eating less before, but if you look at this week itis fairly typical (aside from last night's restaurant indulgence which didn't even take me over this new range).
when you're already at a healthy weight for your size like you are now, you need to be eating very closely to what it would take to maintain your weight. simply put, when you don't have a lot of excess weight to lose, 2lbs [1000 cal a day deficit] or even 1lb [500 cals a day] a week is an overly aggressive goal as you don't have the kind of excess fat that supports those kinds of losses. when you eat too little, all you end up doing is encouraging your body to burn muscle instead of fat. i'm not saying you won't lose fat as well, but when you aren't getting enough calories, your body tends to use what needs more fuel in order to conserve what little fuel you have rather than getting rid of the excess fuel.

That depends on a lot of variables, such as: percentage of calories comprised of insoluble/soluble fiber, your body fat %, cortisol levels, etc. I think the best way to know is to try.

With healthy foods? Yes, you can. But I suppose if you have the energy to exercise that much, your food choice must already be good. That new range seems right for someone so active.

Yep you can. The higher calorie content will keep your body burning and not trying to store fat if it thinks your not getting enough. The weightloss will be more long term too. I have that calorie range myself. If I feel like the scale isn't moving I trade my foods around, so same calories, but I'll up my veggies, fruits, and proteins and decrease the grains and dairy. Works pretty well.

I updated my fitness goals to the circa 2,500 cals I burn a week and it has put my daily calories up to 1,400 - 1,800 or thereabouts. I usually eat 1,200 - 1,400 (well balanced). Do I actually need to up my intake? Can I honestly get to my goal weight eating as much as that? seems incredible! I weigh 64 kg at the moment, 5'7'' my BMI is normal but as I have a very small frame I'm shooting for 54kg, right at the lower end for my height. Female, run 5km 4 times per week and 10km once a week on top of an hour of walking the dog most days and a couple of times a week an Ashtanga yoga session (45 mins).
