Look up "the clothesline diet" - a heavily obese woman lost weight by walking around and around the clothesline (with the diet) because she was too embarrased to walk down the street. I forget her name, but recall that she is on the front cover in a blue shirt and her clothesline looking terrific!

That is the same thing that I hope to accomplish I have always wanted to be a jogger/runner. I just thought I couldn't do it because of asthma and weight. But I will try what you did and hope I can make that happen for me too!

Yes, I prefer to portion my food and walk. I don't diet. I've lost 15lbs so far. emoticon

This is a great way to start-just continue till you feel you can do more.
As an aide in a children's summer program I went swimming 3x a week-although I was in the water 90% of the time it was more of a guard and as a playmate for the children.
The real challenge came when we left the pool to return to the bus. We had to walk up a slope with a grade of at least 45-50 degrees, and then climb about 15-20 steps. The first 8-10 days were the worst-I literally thought I was not going to make it. Then suddenly, it was like I had developed new legs- my stamina had improved and each time got easier. By the end of the summer I was actually racing with the children to see who could get to the bus first. I admit I didn't win many times, but I was so amazed at what I'd accomplished the high I felt lasted many months as I continued to walk the steep hills in my neighborhood.

For me it was the best thing that ever happened i my weight lossm journey every day without fail hot or cild I'd wald 3ml OVER 6 IMONTHS lost a large portion of my weight then slowly started running 1mim/2walk gradually continwed till I could runn 20/walk10.

There is a long answer to this.
My personal experience.
I got ill about 10 years ago, I was 39. Long details but I couldn't walk for more than one block and with the aid of crutches. I was sick for 11 weeks and like you had been very active. In that time my beautifully toned body went soft. The muscles in my calves were the most noticable to me. They hung like saggy sags of skin. I was scared.
When I finally had enough strength, I started walking, really small amounts, not further than 1/2 block because I had the journey back.
As time progressed, I made it further until I hit the one mile mark. Then I worked on speed.
It took only a short time after walking the mile to get volume and strength in my muscles. I was toned again and actually liked the less bulky look.
It's ten years later and I am back to my pre-sickness strength and sadly I am bulked in my legs again. I have never been overweight but develop muscle quickly.
My advise is get healthy. If you don't look after that now you won't be able to look after the other details later.

As long as you keep at it. That is how I did it (walking, drinking 80 oz of water a day.)

Yes! I started out at about 270 pounds and began walking and paying more attention to what I ate. I managed to get down to about 190 with just that. I had to be very consistent with it and walked for an hour a day generally first thing in the morning. After that point I needed more than walking to break my plateau but it definitely helped me get much closer to my goal.

I've always been heavy into excercise, was a Spinning instructor, did Bootcamp style excercises, and weight lifting. I'm currently undergoing medical treatment for the next year and my doctor told me i'm only allowed to walk, no weights, no high impact cardio, and nothing else. I am currently about 35 pounds overweight and feel "soft" again where I used to have muscle. Is it possible for me lose the 35 pounds I need to lose if i'm only walking on the treadmill and doing the South Beach Diet? I tried calorie restricting diets but it's so tedious to track every little thing you put in your mouth. I also have hypothyroidism so it slows my metabolism down as well.

Has walking helped anyone out there lose weight?
