I burnt 400cals in 40 minutes this morning. I'm quite pleased with myself. Now I'm going to try push for 450 per workout and work up to 500. Yay!!

Depending on how I run on the treadmill (what kind of intervals I do), I figure about 100 cals/10 mins. Which breaks back down to 10 cals/min on average.

I have my pedometer set for my height, weight and stride; I go by the calories burned on that versus what the Spark People Fitness Tracker or my Treadmill tells me~

As a rough guide, most people work out at a rate of around 6-10 calories per minute, and someone fitter might be able to sustain 12 per minute.

Now that seem a lot to me as last year over the same time I would walk around 3 to 4 miles. After about .6 of a mile I would have burnt 100 cals. Now it is twice that or nearly so

My HRM and my treadmill can differ by as much as 50% after 30 minutes. I let the SP database tell me its burn and see if it is like the HRM and take the lowest.

I am sure someone else will come up with a better answer

How many calories are y'all burning in a 40min workout, according to the workout machines you use at the gym??

I know the calorie burn is an estimate and based on your weight, distance, intensity, speed etc., but I just want to know that I'm not burning too few calories during my workout.

I weigh 102kg and want to get to 85kg by the end of the year. I burn on average about 350 - 400 calories in 40 minutes, but this is only my second week back at the gym after about a year of inactivity. I'm eating really well too.
