I feel your pain ... I've torn my ACL in both knees. I know that I need to strengthen my hams and quads to help with my knee. Sometimes I'm timid when it comes to trying new things because I'm afraid to tweak my knee or hurt myself again.

Swimming is great for working out with an injury, see your doc soon.

I know the feeling... it SUCKS to have to deal with the aftermath of an injury like that. Your determination is admirable. ;)

Thanks Dragon, you're telling me things I already know, just didn't want to accept.

Realistically, we can't really offer advice on recovery from an injury, especially given your medical history. Before buying braces, you need to consult with a doctor. An inappropriately fitted brace can actually weaken your knee! Your doctor can also give you a referral to a physical therapist who can give you a program for strengthening that knee without risking further injury.

This isn't much of a first time post, but its what prompted me to come to y'all.
I had ACL surgery about 5 years ago, did a good number on my knee in general. Since then I've lost about 65 lbs, though my goal is still about 20 lbs away. I've hit a wall here, and its mostly becuase I strained my knee a few weeks ago during a 5k obstacle run [I got a little excited jumping over the fire and came down bad on my bad knee...]. Well I've been taking it easy since then, and this week I felt strong enough to get back to walking in the mornings, then night before last, I didn't do anything! The only thing I can figure is I slept funny on it, and now my knee hurts, is swollen and making it generally hard to get around at all.

I need advice on what to do, I'm already planning on getting a good patella brace, but I can't do that till my next pay check, and I'd like to know what I can do to strengthen my knee in general so I'm less prone to these incidents.

Thanks Sparkers!
