Hi, Brenda

How you doing? My life is finally getting more or less back to normal, after moving. At least I'm all unpacked--still can't remember where I put everything yet. But that may be Oldtimer's disease setting in, lol. Now it's time to get back to my exercise and eating routines!

Way to go, Brenda!

My life is sort of crazy right now. I'm moving this weekend, my internet has been down off and on for the last week, too much to do...

Hope everything will be back to normal (whatever that is) by Monday or Tuesday.

Glad to see your feeling better and getting back to normal. I had a nice dinner with my daughter, but have to do some extra exercise today to make up for those beers, lol. And I still haven't done the dishes--ugh.

Got dehyrated, and was as if my brain was being fried the top of my hesd. Have been trying to suck down enough water to do this, could of gone to the hospital but wouldn't had a ride home. Pray that I get through this.

I went off one of the meds, and my body released more fuleds than normal so I go dried out. Went from having a swollen face and body to releasing a whole lot of fluids. Been in bed off and on all day.

Hi, Brenda

How are you feeling today? Hope your cough is going away. My knees are feeling better after a few of days of going easy on them, but I'm still gonna stick to the plan of going lower on exercise and calorie intake. I've been staying on target calorie-wise so far, but my daughter is coming over for dinner and she usually brings me a couple of good beers, which are hard to resist.

I know you need and want to go slow on exercise, but I think it might help you a lot if you can pick a specific activity you'll try to do everyday for a certain amount of time. That's what I needed to do to really get rolling at the beginning -- the more general I left things, the easier it was not to do them. Let me know what you think.

Dean

PS Yeah, that was me in 3rd grade, I think, in my Catholic school uniform--white shirt, suspenders, and corduroy pants. Still hate to wear white shirts--lol.

Hello Dean,
Thank You for the good advice!
My Son called to see how I was doing but I was a sleep. My husband didn't wake me up.

My children and sister worry about me. Because of my healthy and weight. My Brother had a stroke at 36 year old. He has done real well the last 4 years. His just turned 41

Once I stop the hard coughing I will dig in and do more exercise.

Aunt Bee

Maybe walking isn't the best place to start then, huh? I have a couple of friends with osteoporosis and other problems who have started doing chair exercises, and they really like it. Basically, you either sit in a chair while doing the exercises, or use the chair to help you maintain balance for some standing exercises. There are several chair exercises demonstrated in the fitness resource center here at SP you could check out, and also I could find out the names of the videos my friends like if you are interested. What do you think?

What video are you using now?

8:30 haven't done much moving around yet.
Getting my mind ready for the day! What mind!ha
Doing my exercise tape, yesterday I just talked about it, didn't do it!

I use to be a great walker. before I got hurt. Love to walk, I live out in a little country town, If I feel don't know if any one would notice. I couldn't yeal enought to be heard. Know that for a fact. The last time I fell. In my own front yard.
Body Flex, works good for me. Love it!

Hi, Brenda

I know what you mean about having to start slowly. Three years ago my ankles and achilles tendons were so messed up because of my weight that I could only walk about 2 blocks, and even then I had to walk really slowly with this sort of half-shuffle because I couldn't flex my ankles. Walking really hurt! But now I walk between 4-8 miles per day, and it doesn't hurt at all. Like you said, you just have to do whatever you can at first, and give your body a chance to get used to moving again. Do you think you can put in 30 minutes per day of walking? You can break it up into as many smaller chunks as you need to at first.

I think my first challenge is going to be to reduce my calorie intake by 500 calories per day, so I can reduce how much time I spend on exercise without regaining any weight. One of the reasons I have been exercising so much is because I'd rather do that than give up eating as much as I like, but that approach just isn't working any more because all the activity is causing problems with my arthritis in my knees and back. So some of those calories are going to have to go, I'm afraid.

So, how about this? We each give ourselves 1 point for every day that we meet our goals, and we add up the points every Monday to see who won. If we start today, the first week will be a little short, but that doesn't matter. You up for it?

Dean

OK, Brenda, you're ON!

I'm 57, weighed 370 lbs about 3 years ago, got down to 195, which was too skinny for me--I looked like a skeleton in my face and limbs. Now I'm at about 215-220, which is maybe a tad over where I'd like to settle. I'm still trying to sort out what "maintenance" means for me. I'm a bit paranoid about regaining weight, which I've done many times, so I've been staying very heavy on the exercise just to burn up a bunch of calories every day. But this old body of mine is starting to object--sore knees, back, etc.--so I need to adopt a more realistic approach that lets me act my age, so to speak.

So, how about this for a challenge. We start by helping each other come up with a realistic short term goal, and then we post here everyday about how we're doing. Then, when we've met that goal, we start over with a new one. You up for that?

Dean
