Hello and thank you for the welcome!! A busy weekend is planned here as I have a class tomorrow from 8:30-10am, them meeting a girlfriend in Freehold with plans to walk/exercise, then learning the register at my church bookstore before service so I can help out when needed (also will attend the service beginning at 6pm). emoticon

Today after work I was thinking of catching a train into NYC to walk around and go to the 'Discovery Times Square' exhibit. Then back into NYC on Sunday for more walking and the play 'Sister Act' which was a Christmas gift. Can't wait!!

Wishing you all a great weekend!! Eat healthy and exercise!! I will try my best!!

I won't hit 80 until October, but am looking forward to it, too. The 50s have been full of health challenges and I think I can get some of those under better management. I know that I have begun to do so and pray I can continue. I hope to get strong enough to do some travel with my dh, besides the necessary travel related to family needs and issues. We'll see.

My fifties were dreadfully challenging and I'm actually glad to be embarking on a whole new decade! I saw my physical therapist this morning; he's helping me get back in shape after two knee replacements last year. I really want to golf this summer, so it is time to get into doing some serious core exercise. He advised I use a stability ball because kneeling is not a good idea until the new kneew are at least a year old. Even then, some folks say thay can't kneel comfortably.

So, tonight I'll find a ball in the basement (they've been collecting dust for some time now) and make sure it is sufficiently inflated to support me before I start my exercises. Mostly I've been relying on the pool (less gravity) but now it is time to get re-accustomed to lifting my weight on land.

Hope you're all finding ways to live your lives to the very fullest -- I'm not counting on the Mayan calendar to keep me from enjoying the "third act" of my life!

New day! Going to start filling out my nutrition tracker and make plans to get outside for a walk. I'm taking a friend out for lunch for her birthday today and trying to think of a place I can eat sensibly and not over do it. Still have a couple of pounds on that I gained over the Easter holidays so will have to be careful what I eat. Today is at home day so I'm going to keep busy. Sun is shining, but it's still only 37F so still a bit cool. Hope your day goes well!

I took a couple of days to rest up after such a busy weekend. I've gotten in some exercise, but not as much as I should have. I also have caught myself eating leftovers that I really don't need or want. Today I threw out the few pieces of candy laying around and the bunny cake that didn't go home with the kids. I sent lots of cupcakes along, but they didn't think they would use the cake, too. So, I munched a bit and then threw it out. So glad I had a sane moment finally. I'm still so tired, but look forward to getting some answers when I see my doc next week. Hope everyone is having a good week!

Welcome CLBOOP & SUSAN648! We're all reaching the same milestone of turning 60 this year......I can't believe the time has gone by so fast. This is the year I will lose the weight. This extra 15 lbs I've gained has crept up slowly. I'm short only 5' 3" so even a small weight gain shows up immediately. I hope to get outside today, that's my biggest stumbling block I never seem to have the time, but today I will make time. Hope you let us know how your doing.

Hi everyone! I'm fairly new to Spark people. I turn 60 in May. I've never known what the phrase "act your age" was about. I think it's rather silly really when applied to adults. I refuse to act like crossing an invisible line means I have to slow down, become more timid, etc.

I'm working on becoming more fit. I don't like the weight that snuck up on me around my middle. Trying to eat more healthfully did nothing. I just yo-yo'd all over the place so in September I added multi-muscle walking to my list and have gradually increased the amount of time I spend working out. I've lost about 14 pounds but my body is reshaping as I use weights on some days for strength training and walk varying amounts of time..

I'm thankful for the ability to track nutrition and fitness with Spark people and to have access to articles so I can become more knowledgeable. 'Nuff said. Thx for being here. :)

So glad Easter is over! I am so exhausted after having all my family over serving them dinner and then cleaning up afterwards. I feel my age at times like this! I can feel I overate so I'll have to be extra careful this week and track all my foods.

Tatter3 hope you have a great trip to the art conference.
Grandmababa I sympathize with you, after having my 5 grandchildren over (ages 9 to 1) I am still tried today.....but happy to have had them all over.
Newvine, I also gained 2 lbs over the weekend, but I'm not going to dwell on that...this is a new week and I'm determined to do better.

Today, morning was sunny but now in the afternoon the clouds are out, hope it doesn't rain!

Hid over 300 eggs filled with candy, money and toys fou some of our grandchildren, plus filled baskets and chocolate bunnies. Such fun. Also cooked a yummy and pretty healthy dinner for everyone. So, after blowing a few thousand bubbles with my two-year-old granddaughter, I was ready for everyone to go home so I coul put up my feet. Exhausted! But worth every ache and pain. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Wanted to wish all happy Easter. Cooking a big meal for my family....will need willpower not to over eat while preparing the meal. I'm never hungry at the sit down dinner because I've sampled everything in sight beforehand! Bright and sunny today but only 48F, will get outside today and try to burn some calories walking......

I took my two grandsons shopping again today and finished getting them some clothes and shoes for Easter and some shorts for the warmer weather. They are pretty good little shoppers now at 9 and 7, but I'm one exhausted grandma this evening. They were my only workout today so far. If I can catch my breath I'll get down to the gym for a bit this evening. My weight seems stuck again, but I know it will move again one of these days and I will celebrate.

Wonderful day yesterday with grandson and his new cousin. What a pair. He's 7 weeks old, holding his head up, looking around, responding verbally to sound and conversation, laughing out loud, rolling over, over 13 pounds, and now...there's this petite little beauty of a girl who is so tiny and fragile. Too funny. Family took pics of the difference. I'm so blessed!!!

We took daughter's family to lunch on Sunday and though I ordered from the lighter fare menu, I couldn't resist eating a few of my granddaughter's french fries. Now that salt and fat has filled me with guilt to start the week and that was on top of a less than healthy Saturday as we were at an event all day (7:30-5:30) and I ended up buying a hotdog for lunch and then munched on a mix of healthy and not so healthy things that evening. Now, I face a weight gain that I'm hoping will wash away in a couple of days. We'll see. I also just got results of a lot of lab work because I've had such wildly swinging blood pressure suddenly appear. There has been a huge amount of stress - 2 deaths in my family, one of which I was with for the two weeks prior to his death and holding his hand as he died. I'm also trying to deal with a 98 year old mother from two states away. I feel I should be there, but am needed here as well. So, the stress has appeared in my body. The cholesterol tests were all very high. That's something I've not had before. I eat a generally healthy, low far diet so am concerned about what exactly is going on. I see my doctor again later this month so hopefully he can help sort it out. Have a good week everyone! I'm off to take grandsons shoe shopping and then go to tax guy, ouch!

Needless to say, I had a bad weekend weight wise. I gained 2 lbs, which will take me a lot longer to take off. I'm sure the 2 glasses of wine I had is what made me gain. Is there any way I can enjoy a glass of wine and not gain weight? Please let me know, I am so unhappy about my weight that this bright sunny day is not brightening up my mood at all.....

Have the day to myself today. Sister went on a day trip. I've already knitted a dishcloth, cleaned my rooma nd straightened my clothes, had breakfast, and want to work on some more cleaning. It rained last night and the ground is too wet to mow so I'll be inside most of the day. Honey wants me to come to his house this evening for a steak dinner. He's the Best cook and due to health issues, probably won't be cooking much longer. Sister is 74 and moves faster and easier than I do ...so I have a long way to go on this spark journey. Have a great day '52ers..

Welcome to the 50's group, I turn 60 in July, so I guess until then I'll stay in the 50's....

I normally would not use the weather as an excuse not to walk, but Fri we had hail, rain and thunder most of the afternoon, so I did not get outside. Today is cloudy and cold, but I'm going to try. It would be so much easier if I had a buddy to walk with me. My husband has sciatica and he usually can't walk very far, sometimes he can go around the block. Oh well no more stalling! Have a good weekend.

This weekend is going to be challenging with two parties to go to, but I'm going to be aware of what I eat and not just mindlessly pick at the food. Wish me luck and take care!

I'm on a roll lately. I usually don't keep going strong for very long before I find other things filling too much of my time. For the past couple of weeks I've gotten in enough exercise to meet some goals in that area. However, I'm still challenged by food. All the experts say not to go under 1200 calories, but I really don't need that many for my size so losing weight while keeping the calories to 1200+ is a challenge. I know I will have a breakthrough without the starvation mode that has been my last resort in the past. Time will tell. Have a great day out there!

Our daughter and my husband took a tkd class when she was pretty young. Then she got serious with it in college as an outlet for loads of energy (she was a distance runner for her university and this was a nice change in her week). Turns out she married her instructor who was a 3rd degree black belt and in medical school. Now he's a neuro critical care fellow after closing his small town private practice. They both help coach the boys and are eager for their two year old daughter to get big enough for class. She may begin with tumbling and dance, however.
we've had such fun helping get the kids to their activities and cheering them on. When the boys were in different gyms for basketball and our son-in-law's schedule is so varied and demanding that it was good for us to pitch in. But, once again...way too much sitting. I have to plan my exercise around these activities or I end up not getting to it. The kids are fit. The grandkids are fit, but me... not nearly so much...yet!

Hope your daughter's feeling better and that the Tae Keon do championships go well for your grandsons. We also try to go to my grandson's hockey & soccer games when we can...my husband is retired, so gets to go more often than me. One of the parties this weekend is my granddaughter's Stella's first birthday...hope I don't eat too much cake! Today is sunny and warmer, hoping when I get home to enjoy some of this day.

Bye for now!

I get to turn 60 next October and will celebrate 40th anniversary a few months later. I,' too, wonder where all the years went. Then I look at my two grown children and their young families that have brought us two grandsons and three granddaughters. My weight has always been a challenge. My mom loved to bake and insisted we eat every bite. I've finally grown past the need to clean my plate and know better than to have a lot of unhealthy stuff in the house. I would have thought that by now I would have had all of this under control. Oh well, such is life. As I also deal with migraines, ms, fibromyalgia and am a breast cancer survivor it seems I can always look to a time that was better than this and to a time that was much worse. Day by day as I make healthy choices about diet and exercise and time management I feel more positive, more successful and stronger in so many ways. Good luck to all!

First I want to thank you for your response....lets try to keep 1952 going as I feel this is a great year and a big milestone for us. Not only am I turning 60 this summer but I'm also celebrating 40 years of marriage to my hubby, and so very grateful. The one thing I need to do now is try to get my weight in line. I need to get motivated and I'm hoping this site helps. I've started the filling out the nutritional tracker, but getting in an exercise routine is what I need to do.....any and all tips will be appreciated.....also does anyone know how I can get "My Sparkpage" to show on my blogs? emoticon

Finally I figured out how to get "My Sparkypage" to show....now I just have to figure out how to lose 15 lbs......LOL!

I was reading past blogs and found one that read born in 1954, so I thought I'd start one that reflex's my age. Can't believe that I'm going to be turning 60 this year, where did the time go? I am trying to lose 15 pounds that has slowly crept up over the years. It's much harder than I thought it would be, but this website is helping. I especially like the nutrition tracker. I'm trying to get more active, so going for walks is about all I have time for. Well enough for now.....hope to hear from you..... emoticon
